OK - the house is now shaking!!
I'm rounding up torches, boots and waterproofs.
If its any consolation its pretty breezy in Edinburgh area too. I've given up on sleep.
I've just had a very fun drive home from work!
Glad we don't have the kids trampoline any more.
106mph gusts recorded in Stornoway and I think they're on their way here.
Not sure if I'll have a workplace to go to in the morn. This is on the border of the so called dangerzone and it's so noisy.. I canna sleep.
Its breezy alright , just been oot.
Its not bad though , its coming from the wrong direction here.
I was out in 86knots/98 mph last week in the middle of the north sea doing a human chain trying to get to the accomodation block due to a methane alarm, that was ****ing wild.
Its no worrying me yet.
Seems it's blarn a hooly oot there still this am. Strong winds make next year's firewood.
Our power is flickering.
Fires on
Power better not go off , i have lots of stuff to spray paint later....spent ages prepping it last night grrr
Very wild on way back from Glasgow to Edi last night and like sleeping beside a jet engine.
Wild wind last night in Lochgilphead but the roof is still on the hotel I'm in so that's a blessing.
Seems relatively calm now.
Sigh.....another visit to that stationary bicycle in the garage
Tough headwind on the way to work this morning, at least I won't have to do so much resistance training tonight 😉
Buying a house on top of a hill no longer seems like it was a great idea
My cat got scared but my trampoline is still there.
I rate it medium.
My weather station recorded a gust of 62 km/h.
This beat the previous high of 50 km/h.
Pretty breezy for the middle of a low lying housing scheme in Stirling.
(Trampoline still in position but the wheely bin went for a walk)
"Buying a house on top of a hill no longer seems like it was a great idea"
Why is it made of straw ?
Yeah we get it fairly enthusiastically in Sw Edinburgh. That plus baby feeding through the night leaves me wondering if I went to bed at all...
aww, where's the picture of the wheelie bins ?
🙁
There's a bit of a blow in fife - spent the night wondering how many more greenhouse panes would shatter, and how many of the recycling bins would be In Situ - that'll teach me to leave recently empty black plastic bins round the back garden.
Can't face the traffic through Perth with both bridges closed so think I'll have an office day today.
The euro bins haven't started trundling down liethwalk yet.
Wee bit blowy in the borders. I'll get OH to talk to the parkies see what trees are getting chopped, I'll be down this pm to volunteer to clear the debris.
bits of the garage roof now in the driveway, someone's chimney now waiting on the next bus, (bus stop didn't survive), and we have the most annoying waste pipe, which is just flexible enough to tap on the flashing all night...no sleep. Now the OH just text to say the shed roof is looking a bit flappy. 🙄
It's a bit blustery down near Newcastle too. I'm trying to decide if a 50mph tail wind on the ride in would make up for the head wind on the way home or if I shold sack it off and get the train.
Rabbit hutch blown over and only one of the two rabbits has returned so far. Now have one lonely looking rabbit and three very upset children.
Rabbits are very sociable, if its able, it will return. Good luck.
All kinds of wheeliebin to car interface going on last night.
Neighbours need a new fence.. That balsa panelled Wikes thing stood no chance.
Where's my bird table?
On the other side of the motorway from Trail Rat, I am pleased to state that my self fitted chimney pot is still intact. However if anybody can tell me where you can buy a new food recycling bin I would be grateful!
trail_rat - MemberWhy is it made of straw ?
Strangely enough no. It is however somewhat devoid of any shelter, so seems to get battered a lot more than my old place #firstworldproblems
zombie christmas tree apocalypse!
was overtaken by one at some traffic lights the other night and rounded a corner to a shuffling horde of them advancing upon me this morning… fortunately they decided to attack a nearby parked car instead.
Ive gained some conservatory...... I guess tht means a neighbour has gained a water feature 🙂
Which motorways that duckman 🙂
ooh I'm tired today
That plus baby feeding through the night leaves me wondering if I went to bed at all...
I've never noticed your breasts before!
I looked out and saw 2 wheelybins and a bunch of food bins and recycling boxes harassing my car. I was going to go out and chase them off but they looked like they might turn on me so I hid under the bed til they'd gone. Bins these days are positively feral
It's weird on campus, doesn't seem to be many big trees over (we lost loads last year so maybe explains that) but absolutely every tree seems to have dropped a single big branch. It's like they colluded- "Right lads, we've spoken to the Met Office and apparently we need to get 10,000 tons of dead tree lying on roads and paths tomorrow. But instead of asking for volunteers like we did last year, we're going to share the blow"
I'm in Craigo T-R. Road into Montrose was shut this morning, hopefully whoevever is sawing down the tree blocking it will cut it into bits that will fit in a trailer easily enough. 😀
I'm wondering how much trail damage has been done 🙁
incalculable damage here in the south;
I'll be donating to the Red Cross. Scenes like that make my heart bleed.....
I just got a phone call from someone in Essex who's Rohloff Brompton has been in the car boot all night, and the car has been underwater. He's not worried about the car, more worried about harm to the Rohloff.
Here in Glasgow disappointingly uneventful - OH did suggest I should go outside and tie the birdfeeder down last night, but survived without my help.
incalculable damage here in the south;
tell me about it, I had to retrieve the lid of my recycling bin from a whole 2 feet away.
Oh the humanity!
Couple of trees down on the A 70 between Edinburgh and Ayr. On the ferry now to Belfast but it seems to have calmed down a good bit.
Aaaaaaand we're back.
Power just restored. Seem to ve a few fences down, roads closed due to trees, various roofs affected. Certainly the windiest night I can remember.
I'm beginning to see why the little valley out the back of our house is called 'Windy Gowl.' Bizarrely, every other time we've had strong winds over the past year or so we have a load of power cuts, but none as yet (awaits weekend apocalypse of powerless doom).

All that and the disappoinment of not getting a new Tesco 🙁
And I appear to have half the salt content* of the Atlantic deposited on my windows!
*OK, it might not be salt
live in a high bit of EK, wasn't that windy really, the whirlie dryer cover blew off, that was about it.

How excited did you get last night?
I'm the first house the wind hits as it batters up Loch Linnhe. Upshot no sleep last night, listening to my roof falling apart. Lost 5 ridge tiles, that have smashed three other flat tiles on there way down. Found a bit of caravan in the front garden which is odd. Also three flattened Tennents tins of some vintage appeared on the lawn; I must live in Scotland 😉
Unstressed about the roof as I rent and expect the landlord will fix pronto......
Still managed a scoot in Nevis Range before the storm proper hit. Was hard cycling at times!
Definitely more slates aff than taps aff in Fort William(work) last night blowing a hoolie at times.Kinlochleven(home) seems pretty much untouched although the radio signal has gone.
Riding the tandem home from work last night was slightly hairy at times- the route is primarily NE and unlit. No idea what speed we were managing, but spent some time spinning out on flat roads at the top of 48x11. I enjoyed the experience... Not so sure about the stoker!
Not that bad in Glasgow, we've had worse. Leaving the bike at home today was the right decision though.
Saw a guy on the moor this morning who's been riding every day this week, never seen him before so must be his new years resolution to do every day.
On my route through town I pass some side road and the side winds can push you right into the traffic.
He'll soon learn and this mornings battle should have curbed his enthusiasm 🙂
Didn't sleep much last night as the wind was roaring around the house, we're about halfway up a hill so goodness knows what it was like for the more exposed houses at the top! A nice conifer in our garden snapped through the trunk at the base which is a real shame as it was a nice tree 🙁
On the drive into Fort william this morning for work there were less trees down than I expected, although there was carnage in Glenfinnan apparently.
What is the expectation for tonight? BBC are predicting a return of similar strength
We are in a lovely sheltered spot no, compared to Killin, and it still felt like a train going past the window all night.
I'm attempting to fly to London, never mind Scotland, and it's windy enough to delay the flight by an hour via some mechanism called slots. I was eating free food and left free coffee and free cakes in my hurry to go nowhere.. grrr... #fwp
All that and the disappoinment of not getting a new Tesco
Every cloud has a silver lining!.

Every little helps
Well that was a wild landing.. Felt a bit like a fast loose trail centre descent...
molgrips, you were masturbating in the 1st class lounge ? 😯#fwp
chapeau !
There was definitely salt spray in glasgow. The flat windows are manky and the car windscreen was all smeary with dried salt.
Slightly OT but currently it's14c darn sarf but in Nicosia it's getting down to -4 tonight. That's a bit bloody odd.
Help Ma Boab!
Meanwhile in Fort William I'm lying in bed watching water marks grow on the ceiling.
Upside of rented accommodation I don't really care, downside occurs if any of my property gets wet.
8deg here in the borders central heating been off for hours and fire down to last embers but the ultra draughty house is still warm. Weather warning for ice in the morning well weird.
'Twas breezy here too. Some elves redistributed bikes all over my back yard in the night.
Slighly breezier than normal in Orkney
The joy of watching my son attempt to play football in this wind...madness
Cancelled my riding plans because of the weather forecast. Not actually that windy now. Off to the pentlands I reckon for a mudpack and a swim
wet`n windy in Dumfries and been trying to snow. Lowther Hills and Queensberry have a touch of snow...
I've just seen a tree that would feed my stove for a couple of winters down by the side of the road in West Lothian. Stopped and filled up the 4x4, I'll be back later to pillage more.
This is only happening because the new car doesn't have winter tyres.
Rail network a bit closed and A9 shut as well -

However this is concerning -
"Driver Jamie Duncan and a friend spent the night parked in a lay-by just outside Blair Atholl after getting stuck at 21:30.
He was trying to get back to Inverness to celebrate his 20th birthday.
Jamie Duncan: "I haven't had any food all night. I've got water from my windscreen washer but we haven't used that.""
At least he won't freeze.. or is it just water?? eek!
Out for a ride this morning on the outskirts of glasgow, kinda breezy, bit of localised flooding.
headwind added 10 mins onto my normal 1 hour ride. most annoyed, had to put an extra sugar in my tea to cope.
Was chuffin windy last night in Cardiff, that's all I have to say.

There's a guy who lives in his car / tent at the side of the A9 near Blair Atholl. I wonder how he is fairing?
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/pictures-pensioner-charles-been-living-2364285
I've always wondered who that dude in the layby is!
I also wonder why people choose to drive up the A9 when snow and gales have been forecast for ages beforehand.

stuck in deep snow as in car doesnt move or just too stubborn to turn round and head to safety ?
