I've just had a very fun drive home from work!

Glad we don't have the kids trampoline any more.

Its breezy alright , just been oot.

Its not bad though , its coming from the wrong direction here.

I was out in 86knots/98 mph last week in the middle of the north sea doing a human chain trying to get to the accomodation block due to a methane alarm, that was ****ing wild.

Its no worrying me yet.

Wild wind last night in Lochgilphead but the roof is still on the hotel I'm in so that's a blessing.

Seems relatively calm now.

My weather station recorded a gust of 62 km/h.
This beat the previous high of 50 km/h.

Pretty breezy for the middle of a low lying housing scheme in Stirling.

(Trampoline still in position but the wheely bin went for a walk)

Yeah we get it fairly enthusiastically in Sw Edinburgh. That plus baby feeding through the night leaves me wondering if I went to bed at all...

There's a bit of a blow in fife - spent the night wondering how many more greenhouse panes would shatter, and how many of the recycling bins would be In Situ - that'll teach me to leave recently empty black plastic bins round the back garden.

Can't face the traffic through Perth with both bridges closed so think I'll have an office day today.

Wee bit blowy in the borders. I'll get OH to talk to the parkies see what trees are getting chopped, I'll be down this pm to volunteer to clear the debris.

bits of the garage roof now in the driveway, someone's chimney now waiting on the next bus, (bus stop didn't survive), and we have the most annoying waste pipe, which is just flexible enough to tap on the flashing all night...no sleep. Now the OH just text to say the shed roof is looking a bit flappy. 🙄

It's a bit blustery down near Newcastle too. I'm trying to decide if a 50mph tail wind on the ride in would make up for the head wind on the way home or if I shold sack it off and get the train.

On the other side of the motorway from Trail Rat, I am pleased to state that my self fitted chimney pot is still intact. However if anybody can tell me where you can buy a new food recycling bin I would be grateful!

Strangely enough no. It is however somewhat devoid of any shelter, so seems to get battered a lot more than my old place #firstworldproblems

zombie christmas tree apocalypse!

was overtaken by one at some traffic lights the other night and rounded a corner to a shuffling horde of them advancing upon me this morning… fortunately they decided to attack a nearby parked car instead.

I looked out and saw 2 wheelybins and a bunch of food bins and recycling boxes harassing my car. I was going to go out and chase them off but they looked like they might turn on me so I hid under the bed til they'd gone. Bins these days are positively feral

It's weird on campus, doesn't seem to be many big trees over (we lost loads last year so maybe explains that) but absolutely every tree seems to have dropped a single big branch. It's like they colluded- "Right lads, we've spoken to the Met Office and apparently we need to get 10,000 tons of dead tree lying on roads and paths tomorrow. But instead of asking for volunteers like we did last year, we're going to share the blow"

I just got a phone call from someone in Essex who's Rohloff Brompton has been in the car boot all night, and the car has been underwater. He's not worried about the car, more worried about harm to the Rohloff.

Here in Glasgow disappointingly uneventful - OH did suggest I should go outside and tie the birdfeeder down last night, but survived without my help.

Couple of trees down on the A 70 between Edinburgh and Ayr. On the ferry now to Belfast but it seems to have calmed down a good bit.

Aaaaaaand we're back.

Power just restored. Seem to ve a few fences down, roads closed due to trees, various roofs affected. Certainly the windiest night I can remember.

I'm beginning to see why the little valley out the back of our house is called 'Windy Gowl.' Bizarrely, every other time we've had strong winds over the past year or so we have a load of power cuts, but none as yet (awaits weekend apocalypse of powerless doom).

I'm the first house the wind hits as it batters up Loch Linnhe. Upshot no sleep last night, listening to my roof falling apart. Lost 5 ridge tiles, that have smashed three other flat tiles on there way down. Found a bit of caravan in the front garden which is odd. Also three flattened Tennents tins of some vintage appeared on the lawn; I must live in Scotland 😉

Unstressed about the roof as I rent and expect the landlord will fix pronto......

Still managed a scoot in Nevis Range before the storm proper hit. Was hard cycling at times!

Riding the tandem home from work last night was slightly hairy at times- the route is primarily NE and unlit. No idea what speed we were managing, but spent some time spinning out on flat roads at the top of 48x11. I enjoyed the experience... Not so sure about the stoker!

Not that bad in Glasgow, we've had worse. Leaving the bike at home today was the right decision though.

Saw a guy on the moor this morning who's been riding every day this week, never seen him before so must be his new years resolution to do every day.

On my route through town I pass some side road and the side winds can push you right into the traffic.

He'll soon learn and this mornings battle should have curbed his enthusiasm 🙂

Didn't sleep much last night as the wind was roaring around the house, we're about halfway up a hill so goodness knows what it was like for the more exposed houses at the top! A nice conifer in our garden snapped through the trunk at the base which is a real shame as it was a nice tree 🙁

On the drive into Fort william this morning for work there were less trees down than I expected, although there was carnage in Glenfinnan apparently.

What is the expectation for tonight? BBC are predicting a return of similar strength

Meanwhile in Fort William I'm lying in bed watching water marks grow on the ceiling.

Upside of rented accommodation I don't really care, downside occurs if any of my property gets wet.

Rail network a bit closed and A9 shut as well -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-30803524

However this is concerning -
"Driver Jamie Duncan and a friend spent the night parked in a lay-by just outside Blair Atholl after getting stuck at 21:30.

He was trying to get back to Inverness to celebrate his 20th birthday.

Jamie Duncan: "I haven't had any food all night. I've got water from my windscreen washer but we haven't used that.""

At least he won't freeze.. or is it just water?? eek!

Out for a ride this morning on the outskirts of glasgow, kinda breezy, bit of localised flooding.

headwind added 10 mins onto my normal 1 hour ride. most annoyed, had to put an extra sugar in my tea to cope.

I've always wondered who that dude in the layby is!

I also wonder why people choose to drive up the A9 when snow and gales have been forecast for ages beforehand.
