You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've finally setup in Scotland after moving away from my home in Morzine for the last 3 years. It was a sad drive away which was made worse by my fitting a motorbike and my life into a berlingo...
Anyway... turns out 3g as your main source of internet is epic when you can't get a phone line or broadband!
I also finally managed to get my hands on a landrover by popping a cheeky bid in on my phone before going out of french signal on the ferry.
I'm glad it was only 20 miles away from my new home as it was a scary first drive on the country lanes!
Pendle bike rack on the back next and then time to skid in some nice tracks on the land... a very happy boy indeed!
Excellent! Enjoy you new life.
Looks very dark up there though.
My fault for trying to take a picture at about 10pm and then butchering it in the iphone sadly - it's actually been extremely nice weather... some of the best I've seen in the UK!
Time for a woodshed to rival mcmooninator me thinks!
Where have you moved to?
Scotland. Can't you read?
We've moved to a place called the Ewes Valley - quite near Newcastleton - one of the 7 stains - I know nothing about this area other than the few days I've spent here!

How much does it cost?
Speed of download etc?
Keep hearing 3g this and that ...
😮

Are you mad?
What are you running away from? 8)
Newcastleton you say that's just over there ----->
I'm envious! The Land Rover looks lovely also, although i'm not sure about the colour scheme...
What's brought about this move to an unfamiliar land?
Are you a local then Drac?
3g... be fast if you do want to and check that three have coverage in your area as their contract is changing in a few days I hear and going from unlimited tethered data to 4gb.
The speeds are 19mb down 2.6mb up and 70ms ping which is all ace! Reliability... no idea but I can report back in the future. I'm a web designer so it's pretty important it stays good to avoid a 40 mile round trip and circa £800 a month that I don't really want to spend!
The landy.... well I'm not a fan of the colour either to be honest however it is the original paint work which I didn't realise so it will be staying that colour for a bit. The person before me who sprayed bits black did a messy job but the metal is solid underneath. It's been put on a chassis 2 years ago and I couldn't have picked up a better landy without looking over it beforehand.
There is a local boy with a series 3 rotting in his garden locally so hopefully I will get some spares and a hard top for not much and then decide on what tasteful mods to make.
To be fair the fireroads on the farm we are at are much smooth than i'd expected and the landy makes a good job of making them feel rough. Still the best / worst vehicle I've ever bought and will be keeping it for some time.
It goes tax exempt next year and the insurance for us both was just £97 this year fully comp!
Not running away from Morzine - just don't have deep enough pockets to buy the place we want out there and an opportunity came up in Scotland that we couldn't refuse!
Yeah your definitely in God's country now, I'm just up the A7 from you. There's some great riding around here. Lots of riding out of langholm too.
Hey onehundred... any chance you could give me some clues where to look for the trails out of langholm? emails in my profile if you prefer 🙂
Well done on the move, hope you enjoy scotland and all it has to offer including the midges - they love fresh blood, i'm approx 70 road miles west of you.
Are you a local then Drac?
It's about 65 miles from here so not that local.
quite near Newcastleton
Barely Scotland...
You'll be biking in England more often than Scotland!
You'll be biking in England more often than Scotland!
Win Win.
Haha maybe! The move is quite nice for a few reasons but one of the main ones is that I'm only an hour and 30 away from where most of my mates in the UK are (west cumbria). I've got to admit though if I take the trail and dh bike in the car I'm going to innerlethen and glentress 90% of the time.
They sound Scottish here and they call small lakes lochens that's more than barely for me 😀

don't drive a Landy? Just a thought!
There is an MTB group based in Hawick which is probably nearest for you, who go out regularly (nights and w/e) plus a number of us in the Tweed Valley.
Yeah there's a group here (hawick) that go out sunday mornings, and another that go out randomly. Langholm have a road club that, i think, has a mtb lot. Plenty of natural stuff around, so much so I reckon you won't even bother with Glentress.
Not so sure about glentress but yes, you're lucky to be near innerleithen. Thumbs up!
All sounding very good - I haven't had time for the bike yet but once I get chance I'll go for a venture - thanks for the tips.
Jimmy the landy isn't for commuting - the cost had the office rental included as well.
Another excellent addition! Tato - short for Potato..
