Just how far is that walkway from a "normal" sea level? Also, how strong is it? Strong enough to take a wave like that?

Someome told me it should be 30m clearance? Up in orkney they had an Hs of 10m and Hmax of 16m, Hs going from 2 to 10m in an hour

Willard, think its about 45 ft from memory. No idea if it would stand the wave, I'm guessing its not the first time its been like this though.

Northern North Sea are usually around 30M to the lower deck. I remember in the mid ninties working offshore and there were 120 Knot winds and the waves were hitting the cellar deck and knocked the gratings out. It was a big fixed platform and guys were thrown out of their bunks.
You wouldn't want it much higher than on that photo though.

I was on the Eldfisk B a few years ago not far from Ekofisk. The weather didn't seem too bad but then a freak wave came along and did some pretty bad damage to the cellar deck. Not structural but a real mess. It felt bad enough sitting in the galley.
