It's not much to go on, but nonetheless more positive than the press were saying last week, which is good...

I was never a big fan but hope he can make a good recovery.

Excellent news.

Sources say it's a miracle. 😉

Seriously? Just in time for the first race? Would Bernie have actually paid doctors to prolong the coma? Starting to look like it to me!

Hoping for a better comeback than the one he had in F1.

All that media training and Lewis still can't keep his mouth shut after all these years and especially at the start of a year that looked like it might be a good one for him.

small, encouraging signs

Oh ok so there are signs he may not die, not so sure thats actually a positive really. Recovery from anything apart from being very severly disabled would be a miracle if you speak to people in the know.

I think he would probably prefer not to make a recovery of any sort.

as bigger schumi fan as i am, i fear the truth is he's almost brain dead and they are not yet willing to turn the machine off and see if he will awake... i really hope i am proved wrong and he walks out of there in the coming months, but the fact that any official news is rare and contains hardly anything.

please prove me wrong Schumi!

I don't want to say this but from all the descriptions of repeated emergency surgery to release more build up of pressure and multiple areas within both sides of his brain where there was damage showing and former F1 doc's analysis on it (going back a few weeks)- back then I thought he would be nowhere near the same as what he was before the accident.

It just doesn't look good (to me).

I was never a fan but I'm appalled by his luck

what's he done?

When talking about the accident, he said something along the lines of "everything happens for a reason"

Lewis is (actually) quite religious so maybe there was no malice intended but its taken at face value and spun out?

Full comment

"He's a legend in the sport, you know, who has achieved so much, a very motivated individual. So I feel like all things happen for a reason, I think that this is an experience that will really show his character and depth and even more so than any other experiences he's had."

So yes, an odd comment but he would appear to be thinking that the accident is the starting point for Schumacher to demonstrate his strength in recovery rather than the accident happened due to Schumacher's past.

Agree an odd comment and sometimes when you've been whizzing around sweating/exercising like crazy then have a mic shoved infront of you you might not say the right thing. no malice in there though.

Plus it is pretty much expected that you have to say something about everything if asked - unless you are KR in which case you are lauded for shrugging your shoulders in response to questions you don't want to answer. If Hamilton did that he'd just be called arrogant.

I can't see anything wrong with that comment myself.

Me neither.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

But I'm not trying to find something "sensational" to complain about, which probably helps.

I've jus read an unconfirmed report that Schumi is awake from his coma and spoken to his wife.

Obviously it counts for nothing till it's confirmed officially, but here's hoping.

Hmm. Be nice, but it's not like he's just gonna wake up and go "oo, hello everyone - what are you all staring at me for?"

"..with the latest reports suggesting that the former Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes driver has claimed his biggest victory to date."

Beautifully written - that's got something in my eye.

Beautifully written

I thought so too. Dignity in the whole reporting. I hope he makes a recovery.

He will never make a full recovery in terms of being the same man he was, I just hope any long term damage isn't too serious.

He's going home but it doesn't look like there's much progress beyond being able to be cared for there.

Alan Baldwin ?@alanbaldwinf1

Michael Schumacher is going home. Sabine Kehm says will continue rehab there. Progress made but still "a long and difficult road ahead'.

From planet f1 comments:

Unfortunately this quote is taken from an article in french and liberties may have been taken with the translation. Alternate translation from Reddit:

Reporter: How is he today? JT: Today? He's fighting. And we can hope that things get better. Quickly. Reporter: Can he control his movements? Can he speak? JT: I won't go into details, because it's too personal. I believe that the important thing is that he's alive, that his family is with him, and that things will get better, but we have to give him time. We have to leave them alone. Reporter: I will rephrase the question. Will he go back to a normal life one day. JT: He will probably never drive a F1 again. Reporter: You can have a normal life without driving a F1 car. JT: We have to hope.

I would still take anything about Schumi's condition with a grain of salt unless its directly from the family.

(this isnt meant to sound crass, more to reflect the silliness of the point of reference)

He wasnt going to drive an F1 car again anyway, what with him not having any contracts to do so etc...

like the old joke,

'Doctor, will I be able to play the piano once I recover?'
'Of yourse you will!'
'Great, because I couldn't before!'

Hope he makes it back to some sort of normality ASAP
