Interesting to look at growth - germany and france have higher growth than us - not just a bit higher but 3.6% in France and 6% in Germany. this is despite ( or because of) no massive cuts adn higher taxation than here.

The cuts are holding back UK growth and making the problem worse not better

[i]Growth in the German economy slowed sharply between April and June and was weaker at the start of the year than previously thought, figures show.

The economy grew by just 0.1% in the quarter, according to figures from the national statistics office. Growth in the eurozone as a whole also slowed.

[UK] Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 0.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2011

Surely you're not taking a single quarter's figures as evidence of a trend?

<Although i'm looking forward to the rational and well-researched 'discussion' that is no doubt about to ensue...>

What is the purpose of this thread?

I understand why threads degenerate into arguments, but is this thread meant to start one?

TeeJ and Stoner aren't going to 'argue'... they're going to 'discuss'.

It's what the forum's for.

(That and for people to post lolcats)

Gloating over 0.1 % v 0.2 % for one quarter is barrel scrappingingly poor - not even a trend nor proof that the annual growth will be less is it.
Did I miss the thread you do every time the UK growth projection from Georges masterplan gets moved downwards? Is it every quarter since it was made?

I never had you down as this petty or childish tbh.

You woon't have the balls to ever go to Hackney, Stoner. That would involve you having to step outside your bubble...

I can't believe it took you a week to respond to TJ's post Stoner, what with you being an economist and all.

Did you not noticed that some other smart-arse had refuted TJ's claims in the very next post ?

Have a look again :
