Got a mate up this weekend and she wants to see some hills etc, but I CBA spending the 4+ hours driving that going to Pitlochry+ would entail.

I'm thinking St Marys loch, Devils Beeftub etc? Any other ideas?

A701, left at Tweedsmuir, Talla water, Meggett, Water, brings you out at Capercleuch where the old AA box is. Right to St Mary's Loch, carry on to Moffat, burger/steak lunch at the Buccleuch then back up the A701.

Easy! Enjoy!

Do a sea ch for 'Three Lochs Run Moffat' - it's a very popular motorbiking route

Walk up Cairnpapple or the nearby trigpoint and see Edinburgh, the Southern Uplands, the southern edge of the Highlands, the bridges, the East Lothian coast and half the Central Belt, if it's a clear day?
Admittedly the drive to Bathgate isn't too scenic...

The B road off the A7 outside of Edinburgh that comes out at Innerliethen feels quite remote and hilly, to start off on.

B709 all the way down to Eskdalemuir and Langholm. Usually head down that way on the motorbike when visiting family in the Lakes

Yup, B709 down to inners, then onto the three lochs run, Grey Mare's Tail could be a good stop for a walk

Not quite hills, but East Neuk, wee walk along the beach (basking in the predicted temperatures!) then an hours wait for fish and chips in Anstruther?.
