Currently away on holiday in Italy and have one day free to go and gorp at scenery in Eastern Italian Alps. Need to be in Venice tonight.

Any ideas where to go from great drive?

Get a Michelin road map and look for roads highlighted in green - they are the scenic routes apparently (according to Harry off of Harry's Garage).

Exactly what sharkbait said. Having planned motorcycle routes all over europe, Harry's tip was a revelation. I now plan on myrouteapp using michelin as a base map but tomtom as the routing engine, toggling streetivew on or off.

At a quick glance I'd be looking to the North West of Belluno. Beware that distances in that area should be measured in time, not physical distance.

edit: looks bloody awful

A drive up to Cortina a’Ampezzo would be spectacular but a good 3-4hrs each way. But that does put you in the heart of the Dolomites and a visit to Tri Cime di Lavaredo is always good.

Annoying that the internet has given away what Michelin maps had in the legend for decades about roads with green edges…

I thought about Cortina but it's too far out the way. Currently on way to Monte Zoncolan to check out the climb up (for another holiday!)

Try the Great Dolomites Road, stunning views from Cortina d'Ampezzo to Bolzano. It must be good.
