So, I've got a Bush Freesat box, and an old LCD monitor with built-in speakers I'd like to connect together. The monitor has integrated VGA cable and a headphone plug.

I've tried a HDMI to VGA converter which didn't work. The Freesat box also has Scart output, so being analogue already, I reckon i might have a better chance with that.

Any ideas how to go about it? I can't find any converters to do exactly what I want, I'm thinking converting to RCA an then to VGA might work

tbh I think you will struggle to find anything. There was a thing years ago called a cheesebox that converted between old TV and VGA signals.

Probably less hassle to buy a cheap LCD TV.

less hassle but more expense, not to mention having to get rid of a perfectly good monitor that just isn't needed any more.

thanks falkirk-mark, obviously I've seen all the stuff on ebay. The problem is getting the audio out at the same time.
I was hoping someone here might have done it and know of an amazing box of tricks that will do exactly what I want: Scart in, VGA and headphone socket out.

You could just break into that SCART wiring loom & dab some on for the speakers onto a 3.5mm jack. You'd only need a few to do it.
Bit dirty but with some heatshrink over the lot might look ok. ish.

Is there no separate audio out on the Freeview box?

There's SPDIF

Does the box output RGB?
That would probably be easier to convert to VGA

I meant RGB via the Scart [pins 7,11 and 15]
The box may well allow RGB output, then again, it may not

Off the top of my head, I'd expect HDMI > VGA to be the preferred route. SCART > VGA will require an analogue to digital conversion and thus will either be expensive or rubbish.

I would think anything that looks like a cable with a scart one end and VGA the other will just be a cable to adapt connection types and not actually work. Audio from scart is easy. Can be as simple as a scart splitter box with a scart to audio cable or get a male to female scart cable first and break out the audio.

some of these should do it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_nkw=External%20CRT%20VGA%20PC%20TV%20Tuner%20Box%20NTSC%20PAL%20I%20B%20G%20AV%20In&_itemId=300307437052

You can get a scart connector which has S-video and RCA audio output which can go into the right box to connect to the lcd via VGA.

Or there is this thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-PC-HDMI-to-VGA-3-5mm-Audio-HD-Video-Converter-HDTV-SKY-DVD-PS3-Apple-TV-/320929883993?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4ab8e96759

tbh I have no idea if it will work. Video conversions can be a bit ropey to achieve.
