Im selling my bike on Gumtree and a chap has asked for more pics and then made a decent offer around 1400
He says he is in the navy and cant collect in person but will pay by PayPal (family and friends) and arrange collection once I confirm receipt of payment. He has a @outlook.com email and Im in N Ireland.
Dodgy? How does it work if it isnt legit?
Thanks

Sounds scammy to me. Wouldn't touch it.
Can you open up a dispute on PayPal and allege you haven't received the goods?
I wouldn't touch it either. If he's prepared to send £1400 by F&F to a complete stranger then he's a blithering idiot. And who wants to deal with a blithering idiot?
That and, y'know, it's probably a hacked Paypal account.
Not for Friends and Family payments. I suppose you could claim your a/c had been hacked and try to reverse it. Or try to reverse the card payment.
Possibly a scam, I suppose you could ask him to send his mate with cash and see how he responds.
i bet he asks for your email address, sends you a FAKE email from paypal, and says the funds will be released once you send a photo of your posting proof....

If he tells you that his carrier is Hermes don't believe him; we sold it in 1984
I have nothing useful to add, sorry 🙂
Ask for a pic of him in his best bib and tucker on top deck saluting you.
No way. Gumtree is pick up only, cash on the barrelhead*. Outside of that type of payment method, forget it.
But you could let him down gently saying 'Pick up only'
*
Cash on the barrel head definition is "Money in the form of paper currency or coin, paid immediately at the time and place of a transaction"
These sayings just didn't come about by chance, scamming folk is age old.
He seems to have sunk without trace since I replied I didnt accept PayPal
Thanks chaps.
