I've just received an email from a bank. Basically it says that my account has been compromised by unauthorised access attempts from IP blah blah blah! Which apparently is in Argentina.

They request that I enter my bank details to re-activate my account or click on the rather helpful link they've put in the email.

I think it's a scam as:

1) I closed my account with this bank several years ago.
2) I've only had the email address they used for 12 months.

Is it worth getting in touch with the bank to pass on details of the scam?
Or just leave it as they won't do anything?
What can you do with an IP address if I post it here?

Saludos

It is a scam and I get them daily- even from banks and building societies I've never been with. You can report it as spam on your email but it will most likely fall on deaf ears- it's so common now.

1) bank won't be interested.

2) Ip address means nothing as it's probably nothing to do with the sender.

I did forward the e-mails to a mate who works for them though - he passed them to their security team...

It's my first one, I feel that I've arrived in the [s]20th century[/s] 21st century. Recognised by scammers, it's got to be some sort of accolade. 😆

Anyone else had the HMRC one? I've had loads of them, telling me I'm due a BIG refund if I provide my details

don simon - finally . . . the recognition you deserve!

Now if you can just get someone to send you 200 offers a day of "marital" medicines and rolex watches, you'll be a fully fledged member of the internet community.

🙂

It's a phishing email. They just randomly send out emails, due to the volume they send out some people will have a live account with the bank in the email and some of those people will be thick enough to enter their details.

Entered details and now they want me to deal with some guy in Nigeria who want to pay €15,000,000,000,000 for my collection of Lady Di plates that I've got on Ebay. All very confusing.

What camera fone for a happening dude?
