Got my old track out of my Dad's loft just before Christmas and it has taken over the spare room. I'm hooked.. not sure if it's the nostalgia of playing a game with the battered old cars from my childhood or the craft of balancing speed with having to get up off your arse and put your car back on.. but I'm addicted!
Already considering doing the loft out so it has a permanent home and have been perusing all sorts of 2nd hand car and track classifieds..
Anyone else have a track setup or still play with this stuff?!
we as in me and crankbrat have a handed down classic set from the 70s and two recent sports sets plus extra track a range of cars from 60s scalextric to recent scx , hopefully the wife is out partying on Saturday and we can have some more quality man time .
As the picture I can't link to was intended to demonstrate our track is bigger than our floor space. Fun is improved by modern cars with magnets or retro fitting magnets to early cars , sanding or replacing old tyres and aftermarket controllers
Also any stw scalextric thread is essentially a countdown to harrythespider posting pics.
Little Benjamins got one for Christmas, I'm loving it - need to look my old stuff out of my parents loft!
I used to do "proper" slot racing in my youth. Still have the Canam McLaren in a box somewhere.
I was trying to upload a pic of my latest scx car a Colin mcrae liver foundation trust red mk2 escort still in the box too good to put on the track can be had for £50 if anyone wants it, ive loads of cars my first scalextrix 1967 and it was second hand used to love the smell , humpback bridge, slidey chicane and the bales

Yay uploaded ! The track . planning a house move or extension.
Ive got back into it after a session on a friends digital set up. I've now got a digital set as with an after market mod the controllers can be adjusted from 0-100% power. This is handy for my son as he has cerebral palsy and his reaction/ hand control isn't brilliant, so we can dial the power down without coming off every corner.
My friend races (non digital) at a club and I've been for the last few weeks and am getting hooked. Trouble is its a slippery slope with motor/gear/ wheel/ tyre upgrades!
I've got the velodrome. I can't give it away ! Why an ex bought me a child's toy for xmas one year is beyond me!
Nice track CB! Some banked corners in there by the looks of it?
Ben - do it! Get the old kit out and extend th setup.
I agree it's a slippery slope with all the kit.. what's this digital malarkey all about then?
*Googles Canam McLaren and Colin McRae mk2 escort*
We bought our eldest a basic (Continental) set for Christmas.
Not a huge track but easily added to. Track sections seem much better than I remember them being.
Got to pop back to my folks to pick up the Capri, XR3, mk2 Escort etc from the late 80s early 90s.
On the subject of tyres we are already experiencing graining.
I was wondering if the track had improved. Mine is probably from early to mid nineties. My brother and I used to snap the track sections to separate them rather than unhook them from the back.. TBH the sections do feel a bit ropey now! My dad did tell us not to do that mind..
Love the smell!
The smell seems to have gone with the new kit, which is a real shame. Parents house this weekend, up to the loft!
Ta nickewen those are not the banked corners they are crash barriers set back behind run off level with the track , hit the corner at the right speed and the rear of the car drifts out in a most satisfying way .
The track in the picture is the more recent sports track easier to push clip together than the old classic with its studs and round hole fastening so my boy can help assemble . the sports can be more glitchy electrically as the joints are not part of the rails , solved by turning the track over and crimping or pressing any lose ones to the rail before assembly .
I have the banked corners with my classic track and the hump bridge but the more modern cars with low clearance and magnets don't like them so much.
Note the designated wife space top right corner.
Is the black car with the orange stripes on the roof a Mk1 escort? I used to have one of them 🙂
Sadly my setup is all tucked away in parents loft 😥
Something in the region of 100ft track and a selection of fabulous cars from 'Fly'. Crazy how much quicker they are than Scalextric's own cars.
Not played with it for years

We were playing the lego demolition editionon Sunday. It was a PSA on here last year I think.
Had to drill a hole in the trigger and put a paper clip in the hole. Tears after the first corner when son pulled the trigger completely and his creation is destroyed in seconds 🙁

Scalextric cars were such a let down over the years front wheels 2mm off the track, handled like silvercross prams whereas Fly they were amazing , scs pretty good if i remember. If you hada Fly car your going to win stuck like glue round the bend
The modern ones sit with the front wheels on the track (and can't cope with banked curves).
I've got a few SCX ones with 4WD that grip like glue, but the twin drives make a right racket.
Fly! That was it! My mate had a couple of cars (Dodge Viper I think..) and they were ridiculous, and that was them - been trying to recall that one for a while.
PMSL at "designated wife space"!
"Is the black car with the orange stripes on the roof a Mk1 escort? I used to have one of them " ?
If that was aimed at me yep it is the Mk1 escort (mexico?) that was in our loft acquisition as were 2 UOP Shadows . all re conditioned now, the ford needed a new pinion and new tyres and got a performance upgrade with the addition of a magnet and copper braids the shadows got new tyres and spoilers/air hoods from "scalextric car restorations" one got magnets while the other I left as the original .

Disturbingly, the Viper wasn't the quickest car Fly did by quite a margin. Especially the gold plated one which has had noticeably too many cakes!
Although its one of the slower cars they did, I always found the Lola the most fun - had hilarious straight line speed, but the magnet wasn't quite so strong in the corners.
Ah... wish I could find a picture of our university [s]hot[/s]box room setup, it was a work of art.
I recognise that black car with the yellow spoilers Crankboy! Little savage if I remember correctly, could barely keep it on the track, but then the first thing we ever did was prise the magnets out of the bottom of the car for maximum knocking-one-another-off-on-the-corners fun 8)
I took all my gear to the charity shop 🙁 would of loved to kept it, but no real space to leave out.
However, kept my two blue ferrari 330 and the track book.
Loved to slide those car sideways. Also have bmw m1.
We've got the old mini rallycross set and some extra 'classic' track. Accelerate through Röckingchair and along Kitchen Straight, up to Dining Table and stand it on its nose into Drummkitte and out onto Soafer Esses... 😆

Nice setup there Stoner. You know it is a big one when you have to go upstairs to see it all.

Got rid of my original sets over a decade ago 😥
So I bought a Scalextric Start Endurance set cheap in the sales two years ago 😀
This thread got me to dig it out this evening and play around with it. I also started mucking about with the GoPro too, so I made a little video 😆
I should add that the hour or two it took me to do all that was meant to be spent cleaning up the mess you see in the background 😳
Must just be me but I think it's crap. Cars always come off furthest away. I think the controllers are way to sensitive. I need a massive straight to get some serious speed but nowhere near full power. Maybe my 'driving' is like my biking abilities.....
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Slight hijack (feeble apologies) but does anyone know how much track you would need for a car to lap in a "real time" timescale?
Cars I think are 1/32 scale (?) but if for example you were to build a 1/32 replica of Silverstone would the lap time be unrealistically quick.
I cant be the only one losing sleep pondering this.
Losing sleep i think your on your own there, a Fly Dodge Viper would be so fast through Maggotts , Becketts, Chapel no easing off it would be good to compare with a gt full size
Hi all,
Sorry for the thread resurrection!
I have a load of Scalextrix kit that I would like to get rid of.
Cars, track, etc. See Below:

Damn, i'd have that as my daughter seems to have a soft spot for it but I'm in edinburgh !
Set off now, you'll be back by, (your) bedtime.
😯 That would be awesome, I have the exact same set! I can't get to Woking for a few weeks and its a 4 hour round trip. 😥
That's a nice set. A new Powerbase and throttles (if needed) and tires (again, if needed) for the cars and you would have a cracker for not very much money.
Somebody go and get it!
I'd love to take it off your hands! Can pick it up Saturday? Need any bike bits? I've got tyres xc stems chainrings would be happy to give you something in return
If Eddie changes his mind, I'm in Woking on Saturday as well (childrens bike race) 😀
If anybody's a fan of modding/building the cars, you might enjoy this thread over on PH
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1058621
not sure how long the pictures will last as they're hosted on photobucket 👿
I think that the same guy is on Slot Forum. He's done a General Lee and the coach from The Italian Job that allows you to drive minis up it whilst it is moving.
Anybody rewind or manufacture the old style controllers?
Have a loft full of track and cars but I remember all the controllers had all seen better days.
Missing that ozone smell
New controllers and powerbase are pretty cheap. Have a look on eBay or at Jadlam.
Thanks all- I popped it on the classifieds as well, and got a taker over there.
Sorry to have disappointed anyone.
