After watching a James Bond film on ITV4 the other night, i started pondering how much a suitable "Lair" for a high quality villain would cost these days?

I mean, land isn't cheap, there'd be loads of Greenpeace lobbists trying to get the build stopped, there aren't that many extinct volcanos around, how would you provide WI-Fi and Mobile service for your evil henchmen? And what about helicopter access, water, electricity, food etc etc You'd also need to employ a lot of supermodel type women to walk around making the place look pretty, and that ain't going to be cheap these days....

And that's before you fit out to support the lazer shark pools, elevators with dodgy floors and spaceshuttle launch bays etc.

So, any building and quantity surveyors in? What's the bottom line? Has even someone like Elon Musk actually got the readies to finiance a project of this magnitude??

😆

I think it depends on the level of finish you require.

Didn't Bill Gates pad cost ~$100m? - that's probably got most of what you're after.

Surely if a villain you would steal a property and convert it over time.

Don't forget if you use a cave system or an extinct volcano you don't need to worry about the external envelope so your costs are essentially all fit-out and access..

Probably less than you'd think, a high quality villan wouldn't be paying VAT on materials and the contractors would probably "have an accident" before they needed paying.

As for the supermodel type women, like with so may other trades, it's cheaper to get someone in from eastern europe as per Donald Trump.

That would soon cause a shortage of contractors in the area.

The amount of materials required would place a strain on the local supply chain. Especially if you are doing it on a remote Pacific atoll. How're you going to export all that material and tech under the radar?

Yes. Just go to Estonia. You'd fill your quota in an afternoon.
