Heading for a wedding today.  Its sunny and no strict dress code so the taupe linen suit it is - however I only have black shoes!  do I need to buy brogues?  ( its in a small village so "brown is for the country" works!  )

😉

Brown definitely, unless you are a Latino gangster who doesn't wear socks, from Miami vice. Not sure on the brogues with linen, how baggy is it? You could try some loafers or plain Derbys. Change at the wedding, a linen suit will crease to **** in a car!

Nah, you'll be fine on your bike, just role the right leg around before tucking into your sock.

I was wondering whether to wear my panama!  Perhaps I should but most of the day will be indoors and one should never wear a hat indoors!.  Wraparound sunglasses as well?

I’ve just clicked that link Hols posted and the first thing you see is no socks, that’s like someone who wears orthopaedic shoes giving dress code advice.

I think this guy used to wear linen suits, he even had an appropriate bike riding suit at one point!

A Panama could definitely work with taupe linen

What about charcoal pinstripe with M16 and grenade launcher and a open chested white shirt with big collar?

Yes, I work with a hipster who admonished me for my slovenliness last week and pointed me to that site to educate me about these things. I don't get the no socks thing, but if it's what the cools kids are doing...

problem is I am hardly a cool kid.  More of an embarrassing aging uncle 😉

I suspect my role should be to get drunk and make passes at inappropriate people.

At “taupe linen suit” all hope was lost. Just wear what you want. Nothing can make it look worse anyway.

A taupe suit is bang on for a summers day! Doesn't show up marks like a white one!

...flipflops it is then

And some boots for the dance floor later. A stiletto heal to flip flopped foot doesn't bear thinking about!

Tsk! An ideal situation for a co-respondent shoe.

Wtf? Only dress for a wedding at any time of year is kilt. Works for any dress code from casual up to full formal, just depends what you wear up top. Means you only pish down your leg when you're half cut so no stains.

Old news now, but I'd have gone for brown derbies.

Socks/no socks, your choice.

Failing that, classic choice is a loafer. Keep them sharp and not miami pimp and they'll go well with a linen suit.

Deffo no visible socks! Hidden loafer socks are a must with unlined shoes like these, especially in the summer!

Flip flops? Good  choice! They are a shoe which is totally free of any kind of convention so go with everything.
