Samsung QLED TV Woes

We have a 55inch QLED TV, more than big enough for us, about 5 years old so out of warranty.  It has suddenly developed an issue with the bottom half of the screen which usually develops either as soon as it is switched on, or within 5-10 minutes of being switched on.

The problem is that the bottom half of the screen has a double image, displaced just about 5mm vertically and colours are slightly washed out.  even when it's not there, there is a faint line right across the middle of the screen.  Samsung on-line help isn't that helpful, just recommends an inspection by 'an engineer'.  trying to get someone to look at it though is proving difficult.  One guy I did manage to speak to said we'd be cheaper buying a new TV and wouldn't come out to look at it.

Anyone got similar experience, able to offer any hope for a resurrection?

Given that TV's are usually not worth repairing, go buy another.

Samsung customer service are not nice people to deal with, ime, and would never buy another Samsung product. The person you spoke with, were they on Samsung's repairers list? Five years use is not really acceptable for a product that may have cost over £1K.

Did you buy from Richer Sounds and take up their 6 year warranty?

Sadly it's not uncommon 5 years is about the expectation of a Samsung.

if you can google-fu the part that's wrong with it, its worth buying that part off ebay and fixing it yourself (I fixed a 50" plasma this way - had a dodgy psu). If you cant, might be worth putting up on marketplace as spares on repairs, you'll probably get £20 and save you a trip to the tip.

I've got a Samsung QLED where the screen packed in. Just had the screen replaced under an extended 6 year warranty so they are fixable, but probably not worth it if having to pay for it. The moral of this story is always buy a TV from Richer Sounds as they often do a free 6 year warranty with them.

slight hijack, better half cleaned our 2 month old 65 inch screen one with windowlene or similar last week... now it's all streaky, what best to restore the streak free finish ?  I hope it can be sorted as it's really annoying at various angles now...

I always just use an ever so slightly damp microfiber cloth to get rid of the marks and another dry one to wipe it dry with.

Bit late now but don't go near it with any household cleaning products.

5Lab - if I could, I would, because as cinnamon_girl says, these things should last longer than 5-6 years! But no-one can tell me what the problem is beyond the screen needs replaced, and that this will be likely the same cost, if not more, than just replacing it.

Spacemonkey and Dazh, no I did not get it from Richer Sounds, or take out an extended warranty at the time from the shop we did use (Curry's, I think)  because if I thought it needed it, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place... that doesn't sound quite as logical written down as it does in my head

This..just continue to wipe it periodically with a slightly damp high quality microfiber cloth...eventaually the streaky residue will be gone.

Being gentle is the key here.

Glad someone has good news, Iain!  I was going to suggest neat Fenwicks and then jetwash 😜

Default answer, wire brush and Dettol.  Whether the affliction is a streaky screen or bad case of Chalfonts....
