Has anyone got one?

This smar****ch is down to £200 (+ AKG bluetooth headphones from John Lewis) and looks like an interesting bt of kit what with GPS and answering phone via wris****ch (will be driving around Europe a lot and van does not have bluetooth).  But I've been trying to find what the apps are like seen as it runs Tizen OS not Android and all i can find apart from watch faces are "It's brilliant and there are thousands of apps".  Where?  Neither the Samsung nor the Tizen app stores show anything so if I'm browsing for something that isn't a game (tide tables for example) I can't find anything.  Is there a range of apps, if so where and is the watch really worth it?  Technically, yes, but can you do anything other than wear an ever changing watch face and hrm?

Cheers

If Tizen has the apps I want (and I can find them), I prefer the Samsung watch.  If not, the Huawei is maybe the better bet - or I just stick with having something that tells the time and deal with the traumatic and tiresome experience of having to find which pocket my phone is in now

Hi, what apps are you looking for. Tizen is limited compared to Wear OS. I have the S3 Classic and find it great for my needs. I mainly use it for viewing texts, email, alarm, sleep tracking, weather, to do lists, and telling the time.

It works well for taking calls but I only use that in the house or occasionally in the car. You can reply to texts using finger writing but for any longer texts u just use my phone.

Don't use the fitness stuff much the heart rate is okay for resting but not very accurate for sports stuff.

It's voice recognition is crap, I use it for recording to do stuff but it is very hit and miss. Wear OS will be much better for that.

Battery life is okay I average two and a half days consistently. Replacement straps are cheap and easy to change and there are loads of watch faces etc.

Other that Google stuff I am not sure what other apps I would want. I see it as a companion for my phone rather than a standalone device.

Regards

Forgot to mention Samsung Pay. It is pretty good being able to pay for stuff. It does not work on all NFC terminals and occasionally takes two goes to work.

spangels - decent battery life, tide tables, decent heart rate monitor, various lists (shopping, to-do) and being able to use the phone whilst driving in a noisy bluetooth free van are the things i'm looking for

OT - as a 5 or 6  year old, I was taken to hospital to have a spangle wrapper extracted from my nose.  probably a forgettable sort of thing if it hadn't been for the kid opposite me in the waiting room who had a saucepan stuck on his head. I must have known him, this was an army hospital in Germany and all the army brats went to the same school but never found out who he was.  saucepans do make excellent amplifiers for sniffling kids though

Okay,

Battery Life - as above I get about two and a half days. This is very variable depending on how you set the watch up.

Tide Tables - not something I would use but just checked the Galaxy Store and there is an app Tide Table Charts which seems to get good reviews. You need a companion app on the phone which is £3.

Heartrate monitor - As above it is a bit unreliable. I have tested a couple of times. On bike rides it actually wasn't too far off my Garmin. However, on a basic walk it often shows me at threshold so way off there. I think most wrist heart rate readers are like this.

To do lists - I use the built in one which is okay for basic lists. There is an app called My Tasks that you set up on your phone and it links to the watch for tasks. It is a bit more flexible but not totally intuitive to use on the watch but does work. There is a good YouTube review of this at

Phone on watch - It is actually in my experience pretty good as a Bluetooth hands free. Callers report the call quality is good at their end and volume is okay. I have not really tried it in very noisy environments so can't comment on that. I would think in a van it should be good.

All of above is assuming you use an android phone. I use a Galaxy S7.

Hope that helps.

Regards

I’ve looked at the Samsung and the Huwaei, but keep going back to Garmin. Completely down to battery life though. Two days just seems a bit shit to be honest. Then again it depends what you’re after I guess. The Samsung sounds like it does what you want and £200 is a good price.
