Samsung have a cashback promo running until towards the end of this month, if you buy through Amazon from Amazon directly, £50 off the A50 IIRC.

Currently driving myself nuts trying to find acceptable compromise of features on a sub-£200 dual-sim mobile, more than anything as a device to pair with my Lezyne Super GPS for the "live tracking" and auto-reroute navigation.

While the specs seem quite mediocre, spotted the Samsung A40 was £220 before £40 cashback https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Android-Dual-SIM-Smartphone-White/dp/B07QM7HXLT/ref=pd_day0_hl_107_7 plus it's nice and light to carry at ~140g.

My wife went with the A9 rather than an S9 that I have just got. The A9 is bigger and has 3 cameras on the rear. The specs are slightly behind the S9 but its better for photos.

I had an A3 (2017) until last month. It was fine to begin with, but it slowed down a lot in the 2nd year of use (not least because Samsung cram so much bloatware on there), and the charging port went on the blink, to the extent that it would only charge about 1 night out of 3.

Wife had an A3 (2016) which held up better physically, but still got very slow. She's now on an A8 which seems fine at the moment...

I type this on an a5. Wife used to have an s7, couldnt tell the difference between the 2 really, now she has an s9 and the photos on s9 is better, but its screen share function woth smart telly is worse, could just be our telly though. Have to say this phone has been fine. Tough as hell dropped amd cracked front and rear still works. Fell into a lake and sat at the bottom for over 24hrs. It got pulled out posted to me. Turned it on amd its fine! Will keep this until it dies...

I've had a good couple of years with my 2017 A5. Hardware (camera, screen, sensors like GPS, connectivity for ANT+ etc) is excellent but as doris5000 says the bloatware is something awful. You can't remove Facebook, LinkedIn etc apps (only disable them) without rooting the phone (which brings its own problems). It's the main reason I want vanilla android for my next phone.

I think the Nokia 6.1 has a dual-SIM variant. (I thought it was when I bought mine but it seems there's different flavours.)

Look at the Android One programme.

I’m just got an A70 as my work phone. Bit more poke than the A50 and a useful extra 2gb of RAM. Little difference in price too.

Excellent phone - very happy. Brilliant screen, good battery life and perfectly fast enough.

We've a 2016 A3 and a 2017 A3. Both have water resistant boards, the 2016 has been fine and the 2017 needed a thorough defluff of the USB C port to fix a charging issue, I also dropped it and cracked the back but its stayed in one piece.

They are both afflicted with bloatware and I'm considering whether to root it and take off all the crap, or go for one of the new A range, the other possibility is the new Pixel but I seem to remember its going for £350-400 which is a bit rich for me 🙂

Got an A8 2018 Dual Sim I bought last year in Oman. Brilliant phone TBH. Not sure what I'd get next when it slows down as it needs to be dual sim.

Only downside is the odd Arabic message on some of the promotions and an undeleteable Ramadan diary entry. Still, it's quite handy to know I suppose!!

Considering both of those too.

S9 - waterproof, quadlock case available, small battery
A50 - not waterproof, no quadlock case, large battery, large screen, cheap

Also consider the Pixel 3a ... though you can’t get it direct from Vodafone yet. Though you can get it from other suppliers on Vodafone.
