Anyone been skiing to Samoens? Family have been invited along to a group chalet holiday at the end of March, there will be some absolute beginners and relative novices- I’d be interested in any experiences. Looks like the place being considered is down the bottom so no skiing home. Thoughts? Thanks!
You can ski down to the bottom of the lift at somoens, maybe not in march though.
There's loads of nice beginner friendly blues, marvel in morillon is brilliant.
We went to morillon as our first ski holiday and we're fine, lessons from zigzag in samoens. Was so good we went back to flaine in the march
Ignore me, SKIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can not ski down to Samoens village, or at least there is no official run back in to the village of Samoens, and I wouldn't fancy trying to ski down to the village, it's a super steep forest that finishes at the river Giffre. I've been going there since 2003 and have only ever seen a 1 or 2 people ski down some of the lift (GME) line. You can ski down to the old gondola in vercland though, but you need to get the bus to Samoens from there.
You can ski down to the village in Morillon, Les carroz and Flaine though and I would recommend Morillon for the beginners, it's very nice over there and even for the better skiers/snowboarders theres plenty to play on.
They have improved the freestyle facilities over years and last year they had pretty decent parks all over the Grand Massif.
Samoens is a beautiful place, and the Grand Massif is a very good ski area with lots of varying terrain.
Sixt is pretty much closed nowadays apart from the greens, as they are trying to construct a new lift back up to Flaine from the bottom of the cascades run, which is great if you have the weather and don't mind waiting for the bus at the bottom.
Samoens is great. The ski area is super and very family/beginner friendly. We stayed in Vercland (the egg! 🤣) which had a super bar by the bottom of the lift for some nice, chilled out aprés. I even made it down the Diamont Noir without tumbling (even if it did take me an hour...).
Been going to Carroz for years and will be back again this year. It's where we taught our kids to ski (they're 18 and 21 now!) and the area has great skiing for all abilities.
If you're staying in Samoens village (which is beautiful) then you'll probably want to head up or over to Morillon and ski from there - that'll give you access to Carroz, which is also nice for beginners, but Morillon is more varied. As said up there, they've invested heavily in the last couple of years, so even if proper snow is patchy in March, there should be plenty of stuff on the pistes. There's also better links now between Morillon and Samoens 1600.
