We've a 4 year old Salus RT501RF. Boiler is Ideal Logic 30 with external temperature sensor fitted.
It's worked fine until the last month or so. We've noticed that at times the house is cold, despite the thermostat showing the set temperature (18*c).
I'm sat here with the thermostat showing 20*c, an energy monitor next to it showing 17.5* and kitchen thermometer about 17*c.
I've done a turn it all off, turn it all back on thing...A full reset and re-pairing.
Can the temperature sensor on these things go doo-lally with time?
Is it turning on the heating OK?
It sounds like it is if you are above 17 deg.
Just turn it up a bit more is the easy solution.
I recently had a problem with my Salus thermostat which turned out to be the relay contact within the receiver on boiler to tell the boiler to switch the heating on.
Not sure why it broke but it meant using the manual mode didn't work any more - had to replace the thermostat, it was a similar age to yours.
That's interesting Cferg.
It all comes on according to timer, and off. It's just the temperature control seems to be lacking...
If you can narrow the problem down to the thermostat itself rather than the receiver on the boiler then I can send you my old unit that's now not needed (not quite sure why I still have it with no receiver to connect it to...). Not sure how you could test but drop me a PM if that would help.
In the app you can offset the reading of the temperature. Mine seemed a bit off so I think I run a permanent 1.0 degree offset. So reads 19 where before it said 20. I ran it next to another thermometer to compare.
You can offset up to a maximum of 3 degrees
Sounds like it's in "wife mode".
{Says it's 3c warmer than it really is = £££}
I know you said ou re paired it but if it's the one with the dip switches and pins u might need to fiddle with them.
Last night the house felt cold, corroborated by another thermometer. This morning it feels really warm, corroborated by the other thermometer.
I've changed to some posh, fully charged Eneloop batteries in it to just make sure it's not some oddity there.
It's definitely communicating with the receiver just fine.
It's not one with an app - just buttons on the device.
I'll drop you a pm tonight if the batteries don't sort it @Cferg
I realised after I posted, mine is the it500 not the one you mention. apologies.
However, picked my thermostat unit up this morning to inspect and it started going very weird. way out by well over 5 degrees and now won't control the boiler. It's been fine for well over a year.
I shoved some new batteries in it and put it out in the snow to teach it a lesson.
Did you ever get to the bottom of this? We had a new grant combi oil boiler controlled by a salus RT520TX installed 2 weeks ago. It worked fine for a week, but now won’t heat the room to more than 18 deg no matter how hot I set it.
