My SC3s are dying, they're wearing through after 18 months of being my only pair of shoes except bike and work ones. The most comfortable things ever, light warm breathable waterproof etc and still cheaper than shoddy designer trainers

Anyway I don't use them for cross running, I hate running so I'm thinking there must be a model with the same build but normal soles rather than spiked ones. The uppers look good for another decade but it's the spikes that have worn down and now the dangerously smooth sole has holes in it, as you would expect from wearing a shoe made for soil and mud on tarmac and concrete.

There's loads of different types, which ones are the ones I'm after?!

Maybe the xt wings.
Although not sure if they still make them.
Most of the salomon shoes have the same build and last.
I find the grip is a bit iffy in the newer ones in the wet

XA Pros for "street" wear. Basically what I wear all day, every day.

I do have Speedcross 3's for running though. The fit is the same.

Have XA's too usual and GTX -watch the GTX for giving you shocks though!
Current fave's are the X Ultra LTR.
So comfy, leather and waterproof.

Check their website, I think they do now offer a less full-on version which is still a great performer, might fill the niche you're after.

Don't you find the soles a bit squirmy on Tarmac?

I have speed cross 2s and use them for walking. On any tarmac'd sections I've been surprised at how much the soles over around due to the long soft spikes. They're ace on soft or rough ground though

Speedcross Vario although worth noting it appears to have normal laces.

X Ultra are a great shoe and personally I think look better than the XA's, although I have both.
