I use to love these things - great for salads, pasta, etc, but I have 3 sainsburys around me and none seem to have had them for about a month. Has anyone else noticed a shortage?

If only these supermarkets had some sort of social media presence where you could ask them directly.

Other than the forum, I don't use social media.

https://stores.sainsburys.co.uk/

find the store 'view details' and the phone number of the actual store comes up. Ask.

We've (The UK) exceeded our import quota. We buy them in and cant get any at the moment. We stock 6kg jars of the things. We also have oven roasted but they aren't quite the same!

They've probably all been panic bought for Brexit.

Can't you just buy regular tomatoes and put them in the sun for a bit?

The trick is to only blush them, not dry.

The British Tomato Growers Association will probably have the answer.

I visited three Lidl stores on several occasions between June and August. None of them had tomato puree in stock on any of my visits. Waitrose only had the fancy stuff, not their Essentials or the the standard Napolina or Cirio tubes sort.
They all seem to be back in stock now.

Tomato product supply conspiracy? Big if true.

I use a sort of sauce that makes everything taste of tomatoes but without actually being tomatoes. I don't know what it's like on a salad but it's great on chips. Perhaps you should re-evaluate your menu choices?

I'd like to point out, for the purpose of the education of the binners, that that stuff tastes nothing like tomatoes. Not any tomato I've ever eaten, anyway.

she seems to but a tube
Must. resist. 😀

There must be a [s]black[/s] red market for them as apparently we've reached our quota.

I found out recently that every Sainsbury's site manager has the power to request up to 20 items to be stocked if they're not already. So just ask (nicely).

Alternatively if someone can find out the product code, maybe - just maybe - the power of STW could help alleviate one person's middle class problem;

Yeah, I was quite surprised when the buyers told me, although I have a feeling they may have been fed some bullshit by the importer.

Unless they already had stock...perhaps i;ve simply bought too many over the summer and thus depleted the local stock.
