Years ago driving through Europe I saw on a trailer what can only be described as a yacht in miniature, winged keel everything. It looked like the sailer sits inside it.
Yesterday saw a photo in a newspaper of the para Olympics with what looked like these boats being raced.
What are they? Have you ever sailed one, they look expensive.
Ah it's a Noren 2.4 they look amazing 😆
Has anyone sailed one?
It'll be this, it's a 2.4 mtr, based on a scaled down 6mtr classic racing yacht. Primarily these 2.4's are used for Paralympic sailors because they are sit in/seat with the tiller in front of you on a joystick, all control lines forward and easy to hand. Also, dam hard to capsize, but do fill with water of healed right over..
Yes could well have been a 2.4m which they sail at the Paralympics. Will find some photos. One of the interesting things about the boats is they are sailed by both able and disabled sailors head to head in open events. Final
Race today GBR in medal contention as is the French sailor who I met and is a super nice guy and has done some amazing racing whether you are fully able or not - eg single handed transatlantic race on a big powerful boat.
Yes, we used to team race them. Great fun because they are fairly slow which means they are very tactical to sail well. One of the main reasons they're used for disabled sailors because the emphasis is on tactics rather than physical ability.
They're a bit wobbly downwind in a blow, due in part because the main is quite large and the boom hangs right out not far from the water, slightest "pitch" and the boom drags in the drink, fun in waves ....
OP final race in Rio will be on tonight around 6pm I think, GBR first, France in second. It's sailed open/mixed at Rio
Bikebouy Damien sailed RdR on a Class 40 (met him as a friend bought his boat) did the Tour de France a la Voile this year in the cats.
