We are a small business, upgrading PC's from Win7 to 10, which in turn means that we also need to upgrade from a non cloud based Sage Line 50 (2012) system to a new version.
I accept that we have to move to a subscription model, I have always preferred to buy rather than rent, but hey ho..

Lots of people are suggesting to drop Sage and switch to Xero. Anyone done this?
How did the migration go?
What was the learning curve like for the user (Not me BTW)?
Pitfalls to be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

No idea about Xero but as a fairly lazy sole trader (employing 7 people at one point last year) changing to a cloud based system (QuickBooks) was one of the best things I've done.
No worries about updates, backups, etc.... It just works - and from anywhere.

As above, moving to cloud-based is a no-brainer.

We use Xero. Tried a few of the others on a free trial, found Xero very intuitive & easier than others to use templates to make attractive looking invoices etc.

The only thing I don’t like is it doesn’t do delivery notes properly (there is a workaround that only takes a few extra clicks though)

Probably not a very helpful answer, but a while back I ended up banging my head against a wall for a while as Xero doesn't allow for duplicate contact names.

It's an issue that goes back years:

It's likely that it wouldn't matter to you but the fact the company is daft enough to use Contact Name as a unique identifier doesn't instill confidence.

Ranty!

I was pointed at this as a suggestion to use… took me five minutes of digging to find the contact name as ID hole. Such a fundamental mistake, I wouldn’t place my trust in them.

So even if Mike Smith works for company A and Mike Smith No.2 works for company B Xero has a head fit?
Delivery notes are taken care of in our CRM.

Thanks for the info.

Yes.

I ended up prefixing the contact name with the company eg. "Company A - Mike Smith"

Both my girlfriend's work (small shop) and mine - medium sized charity with high turnover have both moved to it and are extremely happy.
