Is the Red Bank Road car park in Grasmere safe to leave a car in over night for one night whilst wild camping? Would be leaving it late afternoon and prob back mid morning.

Any other suggestions in either of those places? Happy to pay a camp site a bit of money too but can't seem to find any other than the National Trust one who have min 2 night stay

Cheers

I've left ours at the Old Dungeon Ghyll (with their permission) for several nights whilst off backpacking. Most pubs / Inns / farmers are OK with it if you ask - do it quite regularly up there. I've had some refuse to take any more money than one day's fee even when I've insisted on paying for three.

I've got a friend who obsesses about "safe place to leave a car" when going on long trips - I've never really understood this - I've had cars broken into 1. outside my own house; 2. in a well lit Tesco car park with CCTV and I was away for less than 20 minutes! Neither were particularly recently with modern security systems. From the thief's perspective it made sense - there were always going to be loads of cars in those areas and some idiot had probably left something on display making it worth nicking.

In the middle of nowhere you might stand less chance of being caught but you'll need transport to get there, no certainty of anything being there when you arrive etc... Don't leave anything of value on display, and if possible make it obvious there's nothing of value in the boot etc and I think you can be pretty sure its probably less likely to get broken into or nicked either from your own driveway or a busy car park!

kinda agree about 'safe' place, for me it's more where can I leave the car thats not going to annoy anyone/be in the way.

's what I was going to suggest. I was only away for one night, figured I'd get a pint and a meal when I got back to 'pay' for it.

The following morning I got my well-earned beer and tried to order food to be told that it was something like 10:57 and the kitchens don't open until 11. So I boggled for a moment then shrugged, had a pint of lunch and foxtrotted oscar.

I’ve never really understood this

+1

Unless you mean safe from prevailing tide or similar, what do you think is going to happen the boogie monster is going to pick the car up and evaporate it
