For the last 3 years I have used £10 Decathlon running shorts which have been brilliant and can carry an iphone.  I recently replaced them with Decathlons latest updated offering and unfortunately they dont fit as well.

Does anyone know of any other brand that has a pocket on the back big enough for an iphone?

Ta

How the bloody hell do you run with an iPhone jangling around your bum? Did the original shorts keep it from bouncing around?

time to switch over to an armband? (Even though I use one, I find it a bit uncomfortable for anything longer than 30mins-ish.)

Yes completely. I've done off road 1/2 marathons with the phone in the back pocket. Loads better than using an arm band.

Nobeer unfortunately I am a short arse so long shorts look stupid on me, and are not comfortable.

I do too. But I wouldn’t be able to run with a phone in my shorts.

I am an athlete though. 😂

What about compression tops with a pocket?

I use a pair of Ron Hill.shorts that have a lycra inner and baggy outer. The liner has pockets on the outside of the thigh and I carry a phone there.

Higher State (sportsshoes.com) do some good budget ones. I have these;  https://www.sportsshoes.com/product/hst1070/higher-state-trail-5-inch-race-short/ and they're fine. Rear pocket fits my S8 ok without being too big.

Aye, pretty much the same as the ones I linked to. Keeps phone nice n snug. Tbh, I don't always carry it, as I use watch for recording, but it's sometimes easier to get good photos running over biking.

Dave - I looked at higher state, good to know you can get a phone in, but they dont have my size at the minute.

I probably am I jogger, I can only manage 7:30 miles for a reasonable distance 🙁

something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/272818622117?chn=ps&var=571962897441&adgroupid=48771894937&rlsatarget=pla-399860991051&abcId=1130086&adtype=pla&merchantid=110777249&googleloc=9045837&device=c&campaignid=1030307890&crdt=0

it's basically a lycra tube (like a wide waistband) with a slit pocket in it that you can slip a phone, card and key into.

And your favourite old shorts.

Another option is RooSport. It's a pocket that clips onto the waistband of your shorts.

No flip belts. Why use a flip belt when shorts offer a better solution..... except I can’t find any at the min

Dude, I was just taking the mick - hope you realise that. 😀

this thread is throwing up some good stuff though. As I’m now using a running watch, I really only need a phone for music on solo runs so any suggestions for jiggle-free phone carrying but no access required to buttons etc are being checked out.

Are these the ones you found didn't fit as well? If not, can highly recommend them, phone fits in fine and doesn't move around and space for a few other bits and pieces

the link to my £3 flip belt copy (never knew it was called a flip belt) offers a solution while you search for the solution.

And also, I prefer to have the phone in front where I find it is more comfortable. YMMV.

I'm another using those Decathlon trail shorts - except the lycra version. Pockets are great, but they make the waistband a bit high which some might not like.

I carry a sony z1 compact in the front pocket. Seems to be more comfortable than behind and feels more protected, but I think I'd struggle to get a 5" screen phone in there.

I tried belt/minimal bumbags and hated them. They always ride up on me, and jiggle around a lot.

A guy I run with has some Salomon ones, and easily fits an iPhone into the one zipped back pocket. Don't know which model of shorts or phone though sorry!

The Hylete shorts, and Brooks undershorts in that article look good.

Why do you need to carry a phone when you are running? (assuming you are not out on the fells etc where most people would carry a bum bag or backpack)

DougD do those ones have an inner liner ? Some how not seen them before !

Some other useful stuff to look at.

Surfer - Yep out in the moors in summer. What else would you need to carry? Also it’s mainly being able to take pics and route finding.

I have a pair of those Decathlon shorts too. I find the lycra inner is too tight over the thighs, which caused the shorts to slide down as I run. Shame, as they are otherwise good shorts.

Some of the Nike shorts have a zipped vertical pocket on the hips that holds a phone nice and snug. Wouldn't take a Plus Size model but doesn't thrash around like a rear pocket.
