Over the past few years I've gotten more interested in running and, as a result, seem to put miles on shoes quicker that I predict.
Got myself a pair of Brooks Ghost 14s this time last year. Didn't use throughout winter as was using Altra Olympus for trail runs.
Brooks, now we're back to better weather, feel tired, and worn out. Bit disappointed, don't feel like I've got the miles I should have out of them?
Looking for neutral shoe recommendations. Not putting in amazing times but like to plod for a while and would like to be signing up for half marathons etc.
500-750 miles is expected ‘life’ for a pair of running shoes, maybe less for a heavier runner.
But you ran in the Brooks all summer? Seems fair enough that they're a bit baggy depending on your mileage.
Just get another pair?
Brooks Ghost are the default every day trainer so you won’t go far wrong with another pair.
I’d you want to try something new look at the Puma Velocity Nitro or the ASICS Novablast.
I'm a bit mean when it comes to shoes... My last pair of Ghosts had 1300 Miles on them when I threw them away. The uppers started splitting really early in their life but the soles still had some tread. I used them for longer runs with Sorbothane insoles so probly didn't notice if/when the midsole stopped boinging.
I normally use Asics Nimbus nn's for that sort of shoe. They've just completely redesigned them again so try before you buy if you go for the latest version. I don't, being mean I go for whatever is on special at the time.
Same again or go to a Runners Need or similar where you can put them on and test them on a treadmill. Everyone’s feet are different so better to find what works for you.
I run in Brooks Ghost and change them at around 35-400 miles. I just buy two pairs of the previous version in the sale when they bring the new one out and rotate them.
Start fitness has a BH 10% off at the moment so you can get a pair for £63 which is a bit of bargain.
Recently got two pairs of Brooks half price from Sportspursuit. Ghost and Catamount. I agree, they don't seem to last long, but very good (for me) whilst they do.

That's on the high side, though I do accept it depends on how picky you are.
I haven't got many roads shoes that have gone over 400, trails shoes yes, but not road shoes. For me, it's not the upper or the outsole that goes normally, it's the midsole that starts to feel flat.
