Noted the Rum stocks are a bit low...so need a bit of a stock up for the festive period for those afternoons when doing stuff outside is a challenge...

Some Zacapa Solera 23 and Diplomatico has gone.

Any suggestions for alternatives which are easy to sip...?

Thanks!

Cut spice rum is very drinkable / mellow - generally my favourite one to have in.

^ Hard to go wrong with Doorlys. Their XO is also v. good. Diplomatico is sweet in comparison.

Ex top contributor on here Kit Carruthers runs his own Rum distillery.

Ninefolds based in Dumfries and Galloway, if you are at all interested.

Mount Gay XO is the connesurs choice of course, but I find Beckford Cacao and Coffee (other flavours available) splendidly smooth and more-ish: https://beckfordsrum.com.  All of the flavours are very good, not sickly yet smooth.

My default choice is Mount Gay XO, although I have got into whiskey more recently.

Askival is no longer in business so sip slowly any that you have.

I’m no expert by any stretch but the bottles in my rum cupboard at the moment are Red Leg, both the vanilla and the pineapple, Lambs Spiced, and the favourite Bumbu spiced.

Another nod to Kit's Ninefold distillery. Proper copper pot distilled from scratch. It's darn tasty in any of it's guises - pure, spiced, aged.

Another +1 for Ninefolds, just because of the STW connection tbh, I'll be honest and say I buy cheap spiced rum and it does exactly what I want from rum but Kit is a good chap and the rum's been really well received.

I'm no rum expert but my bottle of Bumbu has evaporated all too quickly... That said, while it smells and tastes wonderful, I've found a drop or two of water removes the harsh edge and makes it all too sipable 🙂

The sub 11 quid stuff from Lidl.

As all drinks are a matter of taste and thus subjective price won't actually make any difference not will other peoples tastes.

However at that price you can swamp it in hot Vimto if you so wish.

1 pint glass. 1 inch rum, 3/4 inch Vimto top up with hot water.

Quantities can be enlarged and Vimto substituted for Ribena to taste.

Am I the equivalent to a subway tramp swilling from a paper bag for drinking Kraken and full fat coke?

I can never drink whiskey ever again after a fateful night in Blairgowrie many years ago so Kraken is the furthest I've been off piste away from lagers.

Also not a huge rum drinker but enjoyed sampling a few 'nice' ones at a friend's house last weekend, including a couple of £50+ a bottle types.

Favourite among us all was Kit's Ninefold - Pure Single specifically. It made for a really pleasant neat sup.

I like to say my favourites are Zacapa or Eminente but more often  I’m gulping down the Red Leg or DMF.

Had the spiced by One Eyed Rebel recently and was blown away by it - distilled locally to me in Manchester and the artwork is belting too!
