You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just remind him thats the last time scotland were really good, didn't they beat france wales and ireland too?
I thought it was Ben Cohen, the "next big thing" who ran into Craig Quinnel and realised he wasn't as big as he thought he was.
That'll be the game when Max Boyce was in the choir and came out to sing Hymns & Aria's at Wembley 🙂
bump
bump again
I think you will find Cohen was a big thing, he scored loads of tries for england.

Right, what's the predictions for the weekend then?
NZ to beat the Argies, easy one.
England to beat France, surely.
Ireland or Wales??? I just don't know, want both to win, but lets go for Wales.
SA or Australia??? Hope the Bokke plays well and win, pity Frans Steyn is out injured though.
So, over to you guys...
I don't doubt that - just came up 2nd best in that encounter
Am certainly looking forwards to both Saturdays matches will get the first but have to take my son to football for 09.15 - then need to make sure I do not hear the result so can rush home to watch the England Match
Have they finally sold all the tickets for the England match, yet? 😀
Reminder - I must stop reading this thread.
It keeps making me sweat and have sleepless nights
(as you never know which French team will turn up)
Under my previously stated rules I will be supporting England, Wales and the Argies. Previously I'd forgotten the exception to the rules which SA = never support SA.
So I'll be supporting the Ozzies for that one.
We have our own skeleton...Brendan Laney...the Otago chainsaw... £250,000 A YEAR in 2001 to mooch around Edinburgh smoking and drinking. They were paying him so much that they had to play him in the Scotland team.He was loaned out to Watsonians and was so fat I thought he was a prop.
I don't doubt that - just came up 2nd best in that encounter
Winger against forward? Oh well, that must've been a massive surprise to him 🙄
Reminder - I must stop reading this thread
+1
Sorry, just been off saving the world for a while. What have I missed?
Still think the results will be
Ireland (but really very close so not 100% on that one - cannot wait).
England (A real shame that one of these 2 will make the semi's - both poor sides)
NZ at a canter. 30+ points margin
SA - will bully Oz off the pitch
2 out of 4 ain't bad Taz 🙂
My money's on
Wales
England
NZ
Oz
(A real shame that one of these 2 will make the semis - both poor sides)
Agreed. And equally a shame that either Wales or Ireland have to go home as both are playing some lovely, lovely rugby. A great advert for the game, IMO.
A real shame that one of these 2 will make the semi's - both poor sides
blah blah blah blah blah
deal with it
Wales
England
New Zealand
South Africa
I think:
WALES
FRANCE (sadly)
NZ
SA
A great advert for the game, IMO.
You must want NZ or Australia to win the tournament then? They are playing the best, most entertaining rugby.
Rather than who will win, who would you like to win? For me:
Wales as I think England have a better chance againstb them than Ireland
England
Argentina as I like proper bish bash bosh rugby and they do that so well
Neither, but if I had to pick Australia as I would rather England play them than SA. I have a horrible feeling that South Africa will win it though.
Rather than who will win, who would you like to win?
90% of those posting who they think will win actually mean who they want to win.
I think Wales will win. 😳
A real shame that one of these 2 will make the semi's - both poor sides
There's a difference between a poor side and a side not playing pretty rugby. They are both good teams and capable of much more than they have displayed recently.
Certainly England have recently beaten Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
Brakes - deal with it? Deal with what exactly?
I think it is a real shame for rugby & the RWC that we will lose either Ireland or Wales and keep either France or England. Outside of England and France most people would likely agree with me. Beyond posting my opinion I barley give it a second thought though.
Wrecker, you make a fair distinction I think. Must be absolutley infuriating & somewhat perplexing for both French & English rugby fans.
I think France have slightly more potential to play well, but for some reason, seem to be in disarray at the moment - they were hilariously bad against Tonga.
England have more potential than most give them credit for. Weakness in some key positions is stifling the rest of the team.
I think France have slightly more potential to play well
Maybe. I think that France have the players to play far prettier flowing rugby than england BUT, on form England have the potential to win more games.
I think Wales will win.
What makes you say that? Pessimism?
I think Wales have maybe a 60% chance of winning, but I've got no real technical basis for that and I don't think I can separate my wishes from my opinion 🙂
I would say though, Wales's defence has been great and Ireland have looked less than clinical; mistakes could allow the Welsh backs to play dangerously.
Pessimism?
Yep.
I do truly believe it's a fifty/fifty game though.
Hey - us Welsh fans are the pessimism experts. Well, pessimism coupled with outrageous fantasising. Bit of a weird mix really.
Molgrips - love it. Seems to summarise most Welsh fans I interact with :D.
As a neutral I am truly excited about this game. Two very entertaining and passionate teams going head to head. With many fascinating clashes in most aspects of the game.
I will also savour the Oz vs SA game. The other two games I will watch with more of a morbid curiosity :-). That said I hope England & NZ go through.
the Oz vs SA game
The most entertaining aspect being that neither of them expected this game. 🙂
So can we have a poll, now the teams are out?
Wales:
DD
Me
Ireland:
?
I think Ireland will beat Wales, NZ beat Argentina and the Boks to beat Aus.
Craig Quinnell, "the mad hippo"
Wales:
DD
Me
Ireland:

which reminds me, whatever happend to Barrie John Mather?
AA - Hanley was utter crap there. He did not even attempt to tackle, just stood there, even I would have knocked him over. What was he thinking. He got a broken arm out of that too.
which reminds me, whatever happend to Barrie John Mather?
AAAAAAAARRRRGH!
I've just logged back on to this thread and that's the first comment I've read! 😈
I think Ireland
pessimism coupled with outrageous fantasising
Did someone mention TJ??? 😆
My predictions
Ireland
France
NZ
Aus.
What i'd like to see
Wales (cos i think England would have a bigget chance of beating them)
England (doh!)
Argentina 9one can but hope)
Aus (cos England have done it once in the final!)
Fantasy island stuff again!
Can I reiterate, If Wales do get through the Ireland game to face England, that young side full of confidence will hammer England.
Probably, but England did beat a similar Wales side in the 6N, whilst Ireland humped them around the pitch!
However, my money is on Ireland i think..
A-A - I agree.
I struggle to see where England have the upper hand in any of the key areas.
Maybe the lineout but only maybe.
Only danger is the young guns freeze. Anyway, a few days before we have to ponder that one, if at all.
15: James Hook, 14: Morgan Stoddart, 13: Jamie Roberts, 12: Jonathan Davies, 11: Shane Williams, 10: Stephen Jones, 9: Michael Phillips; 1: Paul James, 2: Matthew Rees (captain), 3: Craig Mitchell, 4: Bradley Davies, 5: Alun: Wyn Jones, 6: Dan Lydiate, 7: Sam Warburton, 8: Andy Powell.
8 changes similar!

get it right up ye with a set of bagpipes 😈
Taz - MemberA-A - I agree.
I struggle to see where England have the upper hand in any of the key areas.
Foden and Ashton. Wales may have some decent backs but htese two are some of the best I have ever seen. Aston especially is a devastating finisher who has a fantastic talent for being in the right place at the right time.
England has won 2 out of the last 3 meetings and nothings changed.
A_A that's a bold statement and one you very well could regret making (or have made as you know the game is very unlikely to happen) Whatever, talk is cheap so we'll just see what happens in the games.
Best of luck Ireland, I shall be wearing green early Saturday.
Ashton is not on form at all and looks like his head is down. Not sure why as I agree he was on fire in the 6N.
Foden - maybe. Was a great save against Scotland when De Luca fumbled the aftermath
Shane Williams is arguably the best finisher in world rugby.
Back 3 vs back 3. Not a lot in it
Murrayfield 1990 - still one of my happiest days / nights. Seems it will remain so for a very long time 🙁
We have the best back three in the world – let’s use them.
says Kieran Bracken
Foden is good but hasnt had many passes as yet
Ashton is a good finisher but lacks some basic abilities.
Cueto is a solid and unspectacular player.
The guy must be smoking crack
A_A that's a bold statement and one you very well could regret making (or have made as you know the game is very unlikely to happen
I may be proved wrong but if Wales were playing England this w/e I would be a lot more hopeful of a win than I am of them playing Ireland.
Has Ashton ever beaten a defender to score a try?
once, against Australia I think, he's just a modern day Rory Underwood, very good but not world class.
can i ask all my fellow sheepshaggers to stop posting now until atleast 8m saturday morning....
I CAN'T TAKE IT, THE WAITING, THE NOT KNOWING, THE ANTICIPATION...
AAAAAAAAAARGH
As I said before whatever the outcome our small rugby nation can hold it's head high as we have finally turned the corner...
I'll be back on here Saturday either crying or laughing like an idiot!

Pictures of sheep - are you now supporting Australia? 😉 😛
he's just a modern day Rory Underwood, very good but not world class.
what is 'world class'?
Underwood is the 4th highest test try scorer of all time.
Ashton has the most number of tries this RWC.
surely the job of a winger is to score tries? Ashton doesn't have to beat men - he goes where there are no men to beat, that's his skill.
anyway, if he was having to beat men you'd say he was out of position...
AA indeed lots of changes since that 6n game but then who's to say that team you listed above would be the one to face england..
failry sure Stoddart wont be facing England in this world cup!
what is 'world class'?
top 2 or 3 players in that position in the world. Rory Underwood was never as good as comtempories like Campese, Kirwan or Ieuan Evans. Ashton is good but he overuns players so often on simple moves when the ball goes down the line.
Has namastebuzz exploded yet?
Has Ashton ever beaten a defender to score a try?
Now THAT is an interesting question!
Now THAT is an interesting question!
Interesting maybe but utterly irrelevant.
He puts the ball down and scores 5 points. Absolutely nothing else matters.
Ashton doesn't have to beat men
Lol, someone better tell Shane Williams that...
Interesting maybe but utterly irrelevant.
not really because without Flood to make the half breaks for him he has looked pretty toothless thus far.
I will pi55 myself laughing WHEN Ashton drops a ball in one of his tosserdives.
Not if, when. 😉
Has namastebuzz exploded yet?
Not quite 😈
If you're at the Puffer next year I'm gonna burn your tent down!
I really think Aston is one of the best finishers I have ever seen
his dives are crap, Shane's are much better
Ok, will the real TJ please speak up, we'll rescue you from wherever this imposter has stashed you! 😛
Actually Ashton shows far more style I'm afraid:

check out this one on 16 seconds.... just dont watch the rest of it 😥
WTF is Williams doing in that pic??? Looks like he's been launched from a cannon!
failry sure Stoddart wont be facing England in this world cup!
Ok I will accept one difference..
I've just foned 999 for TJ.
At least Shane has his ball tucked in safe.
Looks like Earls has leapt over that italian..
Either that or a team of Italian dwarves played a team containing the jolly green giant, Keith Earls. 🙂
This'll cheer you all up
Has Ashton ever beaten a defender to score a try?
Anyone got a pic of a scot scoring? ;-(
Ah, but i've no doubt those Aussies weren't world class... 😆
Ta toys.
