You know what, his columns this time round have been quite refreshing. Not minding him these days as much as I used to.

Based on their current form - which consists of a narrow defeat to SA, a 7pt win over Samoa and hammerings of Namibia and a Fiji side who didn't turn up.

I'm not saying Wales haven't looked good but you do need to take into account the opposition.

Ditto. I would still happily punch him though!

However, Guscott and Gibbs as a centre pairing. Awesome!

Utterly destroyed with a ruthless killer streak not often seen in rugby these days

FTFY. 😉

RWC News Hour on 5Live at the moment by the way.

If I was Johnson, I'd be slapping a media ban on all his squad - just listened to Cueto - do they have no idea of how they're being perceived?

Warburton - "the last time I had a drink was during the six nations."

I think Wales looked that good against SA, I'd have to favour them in the QF.

Amusing article on rugger buggers in the Guardian:

Thanks to Mike (Tindall) and his fellow miscreants, James Haskell, Dylan Hartley and Chris Ashton, "rugby player" now conjures a man with a mystery blonde on one arm and a midget on the other, asking a hotel worker for an "Aussie kiss", while being recorded on CCTV and, for good measure, recording it himself

I just bumped into Quaide Cooper and Radike whatshisface - very pleasant young men they were too. I asked old Quaide how much stick he was getting and he was laughing saying that for a kiwi he gets a lot of sh1t from kiwis ! I still think they will get beaten and he helpfully pointed out that with my (scottish) accent I was in no position to throw stones, pr1ck 😉

I am in this case it would be england, a team Wales have beaten regularly home and away in recent years and who they are currently playing better than, who have england beaten Argentina (who wales have too and Scotland who are crap). Samoa lets not forget have beaten Australia in Australia this year.

You know deep down that it won't happen though don't you?

only because I dont think we'll beat ireland.

Armitage gets a one match ban.

Fair enough? Would the incident merit a penalty, a yellow or a red?

Myself I think he is very lucky to escape with such a short ban.

His ban was 1 match due to admission of guilt, I dont think the incident was that bad, but given his history I think he's a lucky boy.

In othernews I see Tuilagi has been fined for wearing the same mouth guard his big bro was fined for wearing. So England have racked up 4 bans, and lots of coulmn inches in the wrong end of the paper. Even Gussett thinks they are a disgrace. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/15157763.stm

I think it shows that England are prepared to go too far too succeed as shown by the coaches, the players are not playing with disipline, loads of pens and two bans nor are they behaving off the pitch. It shows leadership troubles IMO

Well it either proves they are very thick as its only them that didnt know the rules, if Mongo can manage it I'm sure anyone can, or they did it on purpose. Not much of a story though TBH

To me Englands discipline issues on and off the pitch come mainly from arrogance. They think the rules don't apply to the chosen ones

with the IRB confirming they have fined a number of players from a range of countries for the same "mistake".
I don't think it's limited to the tuilagi's.

I can understand why you might find this annoying, seeing as you have just lost to us. But arrogance is just a side effect of self belief. If you don't believe you will win, then you probably will not. Perhaps this is why Scotland havent brought home the goodies..

It isn't a dig TJ, its an opinion, if you worry about upsetting people because of your self confidence then perhaps this might reduce your self confidence, and hence your performance. Your perception of a dig is clouded by the fact that you are hurt by scotlands failure.

You don't see NZ doing what? I don't see what I have done that is a "dig" define it please. The worst that you can accuse me of is defending my team agaisnt the constant onslaught from you and AA

Toys - thats nothing to do with it. I am not hurt at being beaten by England I am hurt by not playing to our potential

You claimed earlier not to be making digs at other teams - well you do and do so all the time without realising it IMO

But arrogance is just a side effect of self belief.

Is a reasonable opinion - wrong IMO but not unreasoanble

I can understand why you might find this annoying, seeing as you have just lost to us.
is the little dig again. Waht has scotland poor performance got to do with the fact England keep on getting into disciplinary trouble on and off the field.

Maxraqy - its the arrogance that leads them to believe they can behave like this

Wasn't a dig, I was merely pointing out that your opinion of england is a fairly one eyed one mainly because you lost to them, isn't that a valid thing to say?

Waht has scotland poor performance got to do with the fact England keep on getting into disciplinary trouble on and off the field.

Well I was continuing on from your theory that englands discipline is related to their arrogance, arrogance stemming from self belief, self belief leading to them beating scotland. Simple.

No - cos its nonsense. Yo need to actually read what is said.

England beat Scotland because they were the better team on the day and Scotland were not good enough. I said that at the time.

Reading about Cuetos "outburst" it just seems the english lads dont get it. You are playing in the World Cup, your captain has just married royalty you come from a country with a rabid press, a former captain was stitched up by the NOTW and you dont think you are going to be the focus of press attention. If it isnt arrogance then they are as thick as dog shit. Just be proffessional and keep your heads down, everyone else seems to be able to do it. Cueto bleating that this wouldnt happen at home HELLO you arent at home you are at the World Cup.

In other news Italian hooker cited for gouging, bit harsh imho.

Toys - its not. Its only because of your enormous chip you think this.
50% of what I post is anti english - only from your one eyed viewpoint. Try actually reading it with an open mind

You exhibit exactly the lack of understanding, the arrogance and the siege mentality that leads the england team to behave like this and to be so widely disliked.

gethin has pretty much been injured all this season and was most of last season, so your comment is pretty fatuous and saying that Healy will take care of him is pretty daft as both are looseheads. gethin will also struggle to make the starting 15 anyway.

AA I was only stating the fact that he is not in the form he was in 2009 on Lions tour etc. I know that Healy is a loosehead and I didn't say he would take care of Gethin! I've played long enough in the front row to understand this 😀

Good stuff. 😀

Anyway, I see France have decided to stick with Parra at fly half for the England game. Personally, I'm delighted.

Unfortunately, Lieveremont has had a sudden flash of common sense and restored Harinordoquy to No.8. When you look at the French from 1-15 they have some decent players. It's astonishing that they can be so much less than a sum of their parts.

As a seasoned observer of les Bleus I still fear they could muster a "try from the end of the world" type performance.

Mind you, the recent capitulations to Italy, Tonga and, worst of all, the 59-16 thrashing by the Aussies (after leading 16-13 at the start of the 2nd half) may indicate a different outcome.

Well they could (hopefully). That's the beauty of the French though because you never know....

They might get stuffed on Saturday and then come back next year and win the Grand Slam.

Sorry for another French video but just to remind us how good they can be:

PS
I love the try from the RWC semi '87 when there are bodies prostrate all over the pitch before Blanco gets in at the corner.

Well said that man. There's a slightly surreal feel to a bunch of English people arguing amongst themselves about whether or not they're a bunch of cocks!

Can't see England having problems against the French side, unless Le Bleu get their heads together and play some quality rugby. Parra at no.10 is a strange selection in a critical position - perhaps Lievremont has an urgent appointment back in Paris next week he doesn't want to miss.

Of course we can! That's our right!

Just as it's also our right that if we fancy it (maybe half way through a match) we'll come out and rip any team in the world to shreds. We're still working out whether we fancy playing like that at any point at this WC or if we simply prefer to fight amongst ourselves (cf Football WC) instead.

I'm reckoning that our masterplan has learnt the lessons of previous WCs - we keep beating NZ but not in the final. We've now set it up nicely to meet them in the final and pull their pants down in their own country 😉

Maybe.

This article got me thinking, what would be your world cup best 15?

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/rugby/world-cup/rugby-world-cup-dream-team-the-best-xv-ever-16047546.html?ino=1

1. Os du Randt
2. Woody
3. Euan Murray
4. John Eales
5. Ian Jones
6. Jerry Collins
7. Michael Jones
8. Zinny
9. Joost
10. Jonny W
11. Jonah Lomu
12. Scott Gibbs
13. BOD
14. Campo
15. Blanco

The Torygraph made this selection:

Loosehead prop: Jason Leonard

Hooker: Sean Fitzpatrick

Tighthead prop: Richard Loe

Second row front jumper: Martin Johnson

Second row middle jumper: John Eales (captain)

Blindside flanker: Ruben Kruger

Openside flanker: Michael Jones

Number 8: Wayne Shelford

Scrum-half: Joost van der Westhuizen

Fly-half: Michael Lynagh

Left-wing: David Campese

Inside centre: Tim Horan

Outside centre: Brian O'Driscoll

Right-wing: Jason Robinson

Full-back: Serge Blanco

I'd go with most of that except Lomu in on one of the wings and Wilkinson at fly half.

There's a good chance of both Eng/France and Wales/Ireland being amazing games...

The good French side turn up in the game England decide to actually string more than 3 phases of play together, a confident Welsh side putting immense pressure on the Irish...

OR

the woeful french and error strewn English teams will try their best to let the other win and the welsh and Irish will play a really cagey game desperate not to lose.

I hope its the former, would make a great weekends rugby!

Yeah if it were based purely on RWC performance then there probably would be a few different selections, but sure a wee bit of sentimentality does no harm.

I think you really must have Lomu in any selection, his impact was huge in every sense.

Jonny instead of Dan? yes, I think that Joost, Jonny and Scotty Gibbs would be great in defence and then BOD, Campo and Blanco could be creative outside them

Area the size of Wales at risk of over-excitement about George North

[img] [/img]
An area approximately the size of Wales is reported to be genuinely at risk from some sort of explosion due to growing excitement over how good George North is. The thresholds of human capability for keeping a lid on such things are being sorely tested, as the Norfolk-Anglesey hybrid continues to process opposition defences like some sort of divine threshing machine.

The UN have already declared that containment is no longer the strategy and have moved on to planning for rebuilding society in the resulting crater.
