for the Racists.
Why do you keep calling them 'the Rascists'?
Forget that, this thread does not need to be derailed.
Because they had the chance to take a look at themselves in the light of BLM and the fact that First Nation people were asking them to change their branding and instead of taking that on board they decided to say, 'Nope, we're good, thanks. And just to really take the piss we're going to blast the tomahawk chop over the PA system since the fans aren't here to do it. You know, because BT Sport are too lefty liberal PC gone mad to include it in their piped in crowd noises.'
If they want people to stop calling them the Exeter Racists they should change their branding and give up the Tomahawk Chop.

Jeez, you need to calm down mate.
Jeez, you need to calm down mate.
Is that your response to everyone who points out racism?
Sorry, I forgot, it's not racism. No First Nations people are complaining about it, after all (well, some are, but the vast majority of First Nations people haven't complained yet so lets just pretend it's only middle class white people getting upset over nothing).
I’m afraid Russell was the difference today, and not positively. Exeter were lucky he handed them the game at key moments.
I love the whole Exeter story, and am really happy for them, but most of the best players on the pitch were from Racing today.
Nigel had to have the attention on him. You might think it’s an obvious no brainer but the laws of rugby don’t clarify it. Therefore we ended up unsure whether the biggest game of the year was over or not.
Again. Rubbish. We all know it was over, the decision making process could have been further extended (and made absolute) by replaying the TV in real time to see how long the delay/lost time had been but everyone knows. Even you. You're pretending you don't because you don't like Owens, why I don't know.
Play the ball, not the man.
you don’t like Owens, why I don’t know.
Because I watch rugby.
He used to be a good ref. At some point he watched one too many of his own youtube clips and became a parody of himself.
By the way, you're the one who keeps bringing up the time keeping. It's an example of an Owens-ism but didn't have any effect on the outcome of the game.
My main problems are with his other decisions which you haven't commented on.
Time keeping; I don't 'keep bringing it up', I was just responding to your post saying that WE don't know. WE do, it's you that supposedly doesn't.
Other matters - as I said in the original post, I'm not a big follower so not qualified to comment on the correct application of the laws, you're probably right there so there's no point me arguing that.
Any rugby match there always will be controversial decisions because there is a lot of interpretation required. I thought the yellow card harsh - he did try to scoop the ball up, he didn't slap it down or out. Vakatawa was ahead of the Russell twice on chips, Exeter were offside at rucks a lot. SHCs turnover IMO was fine - his feet were behind the line so no offside - he was the first man in on his feet. the high tackle on Imhoff could well have been yellow
this will always happen in rugby - its the nature of the game. fans will only see the decisions that go against their team - again its just how it is. I was a neutral just about on this game so saw them both ways
the timekeeping - they got to the correct decision in the end - thats the important thing
Highly entertaining game all in all.
I don't know why you are insisting on defending Owens. He created confusion where none existed and we're supposed to applaud him because he managed to sort out his own **** up?
We don't know what the rules say about the technicalities of timekeeping because it's not been an issue. Up until now no referee has decided to undelegate timekeeping responsibilities, therefore no one has had to wonder whether the ref has the right to put time back on the clock.
I never said it affected the outcome of the match.
TBH, I'm not sure what we're disagreeing about except that I don't believe the ref is allowed to put time back on the clock but you think it is allowed?
Seen it done several times before when the stadium clock is wrong as it was.
I've never seen a ref say to a timekeeper, 'put x seconds back on the clock.' I've seen them check the time with the timekeeper when the stadium clock is wrong but never to wind the clock back because of something that either happened or didn't happen on the pitch.
I'm actually beginning to doubt myself now. He did say 'put 5 seconds back on the clock', or something like that when a scrum was taking too long to form, didn't he?
Edit: not for a scrum to form, I think it was actually for the final penalty where Exeter were wasting time somehow. It was weird but it was a situation of Owens own making.
Yes. He told the timekeeper to stop the clock because Exeter were pissing about wasting time deciding what to do with their penalty. He told the TK at 32, but it only got stopped at 37.
He then asked the 5s to be returned, but for whatever reason it couldn't be. So he said he would restart play, count 5s himself and then the clock should start, but again the TK failed to do it.
It's not absolutely clear how long the gap was between Owens calling the clock restart after his own count and when it really did start but as the clock stopped after the kick went over at 57, and the gap was substantially more than the 3s between 57 and time, in the end the TMO said that 57 was technically on the clock but in reality time would have expired.
[I still disagree it was of Owens making. i/ he had to stop the clock (at 32s) because Exeter were (probably deliberately) wasting time over the choice of penalty - it wasn't his doing the TK failed in that. ii/ not his fault that the TK couldn't add the 5s back to turn 37 into 32 (in hindsight should have stopped everyone again and made it happen, instead of opting to self-count the 5s?); iii/ not his fault that the TK didn't restart after his 5 count.
All of those were of other's doing, he could have handled the situation different but he got the outcome right by other means]
Bruce,I have seen premiership games where the ref has said he would go with his own watch rather than the stadium clock. At the end of the day, the ref is the sole arbiter of the laws;that would include time.
Both halves of this mornings Blediscoe cup are on you tube. You are all welcome!
I’ve never seen a ref say to a timekeeper, ‘put x seconds back on the clock.’
I have seen it several times
It's good to see that Gatland is ensuring Scottish interest in the Lions tour:
British and Irish Lions announce first home Test in 16 years as Warren Gatland's men to face Japan at Murrayfield
😉
1 day to go until Scotland v Georgia. Surely with Scotland at home, it's just a matter of how comfortable they win? A good chance for them to gain some momentum to take into the Wales game (which I'm ashamed to say, I'd have them as slight favourites for at the mo).
What is everyone expecting/ looking forward to?
GodDammit on bench for Wales!
GodDammit on bench for Wales
How much time do you think he'll get? ~35min?
It would be great to see him settle in quickly with a try out two. Gonna be a hard game for Wales - only about a 25% chance of winning I reckon.
Barbars in the poop following breach of C19 bubble. They are now looking for players, and Bris have been subject to the most recent testing.
If prem rugby allows is, there is a chance that the Barbars could be well stocked with Bears.
If that happens, I will 100% be supporting the Barbars vs England.
A combo of Barbars, Bristol and England for me is just too good to be true. I'm just a *little* bit excited (pee actually came out when I heard).
Didn't Jones conveniently call up half of them literally a few hours before this was announced?
Gonna be a hard game for Wales – only about a 25% chance of winning I reckon.
Yeah, not sure what France will be like but we will be using this as a tune up I'm sure. Prop choices are odd Carre has potential, but Wyn Jones and Smith are better currently and Lee needs a big game to show he can live up to his pre achilies potential. Elias has a big chance too, Dee has always looked good understudying Owens but Elias has more potential. Not sure why Cubby is on bench not international quality imo.
Has Patch played since the last world cup? Was hoping to see Sheedy bench.
1 day to go until Scotland v Georgia. Surely with Scotland at home, it’s just a matter of how comfortable they win?
Georgia will be no mugs. they do not get many opportunities to play top tier teams so will be really up for this. Scotland is a somewhat makeshift team with loads of missing players. a banana skin for sure
I don't know, now could be Scotland's time. They've got a run of winnable games. I've not seen much of Van Der Merwe, but he looks like he could win on his own. Time to be optimistic?
Duhan is a fabulous player - plenty quick and with a mighty fend. a big lad
Gregor Townsend seems like a nice guy, but he's rather wooden and dull when interviewed.
So England v Barbarians is off, thanks to the 12 ****s deciding to go out for dinner in London 2 nights in a row. Apparently it’s costing the RFU thousands to process refunds, repay tv rights etc.
Idiots.
No pudding for the Baba’s
Robshaw was never a good decision maker!!
The Barbarians who enjoyed two nights out in Mayfair and left the RFU with no option but to cancel tomorrow’s game against England have been accused of a “serious breach of trust” that put players’ health at risk.
Chris Robshaw, Richard Wigglesworth, Jackson Wray, Joel Kpoku, Tom de Glanville and Fergus McFadden were among 12 players sent home on Thursday for leaving the team’s biosecure bubble and breaking coronavirus protocols.
It is understood that RFU security staff posted at the Barbarians hotel on Park Lane became suspicious about the players’ whereabouts and tracked them down to an Italian restaurant. The players isolated from the rest of the squad on their return to the hotel and then stood down, leaving embarrassed Barbarians officials to scramble for a dozen replacements.
I understand that the players broke the Barbarians covid code of conduct, but surely the restaurants/pubs visited were covid secure and the actual risk very low?
Good win for Scotland but Georgia were poor. Apparently missing some of their key players.
Our forwards did a workmanlike demolition of their pack. Toolis, Watson. Fraser the standouts
Kinghorn a mixed bag at fullback, Both wingers great with what little ball they had. Russell looked class when he came on, Hastings continues to hesitate and run up blind alleys / get caught in possession
From the start it was clear Scotland would win comfortably, I'm not sure how that affects their play. They played well I thought if you allow for a little rustiness. Hastings first kick was good, but he missed too many afterwards. He looked kinda okay, but it was clear as soon as Russell came on how much more he offers.
I thought the commentary on ITV4 was pretty dire.
I managed to watch it until half time, then turned it off!
Also, does anyone care even slightly about the 6n's? It was 7 months/basically a whole different life ago.....time to move on. I feel the same way about the Prem.
Also, does anyone care even slightly about the 6n’s?
This new English ref is doing his best for his country.
You have to admit thatvwas lovely from the italy 10!!
You have to admit thatvwas lovely from the italy 10!!
Just seen that - very nice. With France v Wales being a friendly I’d love to see lots of such flair from both sides tonight.
Anyone watching Exeter v Wasps? (I presume it’s on tv somewhere).
I am expecting Wales to look rustier than France as they havent been playing many club matches or any in the case of Jiffy Junior and Patchel.
AWJ 148 caps, legend.
Like I said rusty!!
Hint of losing it in contact!!
Wales looked OK for about 2mins and been shite after that. Defence has been shite since Edwards left.
Not much for Scotland to worry about.
I think you’re a tad harsh a_a, I thought Wales played some good rugby. France however were just far too good. Very physical - can Scotland do that? Let’s hope some of Wales disjointedness was due to rustiness as you suggested. Scotland should be encouraged by the Wales display no doubt, but it may well be close and could be anyone’s game.
Can someone please explain what people see in Nick Tompkins? I just don’t get it.
A French team drilled by Edwards - we should all start worrying!!
Can someone please explain what people see in Nick Tompkins? I just don’t get it.
I was thinking the same. He seems to have skills and is keen/hard working. But to me plays a bit like a headless chicken. Then again I know nothing really about the game and people who do talk highly of him.
Can someone please explain what people see in Nick Tompkins
He's a 12, other welsh 12's are Halaholo, Johnny Williams and may nan.
He’s a 12, other welsh 12’s are Halaholo, Johnny Williams and may nan.
a_a how good do you think he will be once he’s settled into the side?
Too small and too headless so far.
The defence is the biggest issue, far too easily out manoeuvered. Frances power runners and offloading was very good, but we should not be conceding 5 tries
France played the game well.
Wales had some urgency and played some structured (training field plays) rugby quite well, but turned the ball over too easily. Defensively they were all over the place once the structure went. Webb and Davies looked out of options and rattled after a couple of phases. I can't recall hearing North's name mentioned during the first half.
The WRU letting Edwards go after the World Cup is the definition of insanity. What he's done with France in a few months is the reason he will be able to go anywhere next and name his price. The stereotypical name given to a group of French rugby players shouldn't be a "Team", it should be an "argument".
I remember a bit of commentary from years back. Paraphrasing: When you come to Paris you know that France will never be out of the game. They may well be having an argument, blowing their checks out in barely concealed contempt for each other, then all of a sudden they'll go "shall we score some trys?" Then run down the other end of the field and put 20 points on you, whilst all you are doing is chasing ghosts."
The French pack were bigger and stronger and far more dynamic. What I dont get is how we can have so many quality flankers and yet James Davies is still on the pitch!! The French centre pairing of Fickou and Vakatawa is bloody brilliant too whilst Wales had a headless chicken and Davies playing his second game in a year in midfield.
Dont understand why Biggar stayed on injured too, I have never seen him miss three kicks in a row before either.
And Halfpenny isnt good enough anymore, he'll never let you down but he has zero attacking threat.
Edinburgh go down to defeat at Connacht. 17 players missing due to internationals and injuries. We always struggle in international periods but it does give chance for some youngsters and Andrew Davidson took his. Watch for the name in the next couple of years
JJ Williams RIP what a player
England V Italy - a pretty strong attacking side, looking for the BP and +24 PD to secure the 6N. Furbank's probably the weak link there but they have Watson to cover, and I'm surprised by Jonny Hill over Ewles experience - but I haven't watched him play to be fair. It'll be interesting to see how any of the new boys step up in open play for the last 20.
15. George Furbank (Northampton Saints, 2 caps)

And as I was posting, this
JJ Williams RIP what a player
RIP and huge tributes 🙁
Bugger, one of the greats! RIP.
JJ Williams RIP what a player
Dreadful commentator though.
Wales: Leigh Halfpenny; Liam Williams, Jonathan Davies, Owen Watkin, Josh Adams; Dan Biggar, Gareth Davies; Rhys Carre, Ryan Elias, Tomas Francis, Will Rowlands, Alun Wyn Jones, Shane Lewis-Hughes, Justin Tipuric, Taulupe Faletau.
Replacements: Sam Parry, Wyn Jones, Dillon Lewis, Cory Hill, James Davies, Lloyd Williams, Rhys Patchell, Nick Tompkins.
That midfield 😟😟
Davies on bench over Wainwright 😟😟😟
North dropped completely. 😥👋😬
Lloyd Williams? 😳😳😳
Is Shane Lewis-Hughes any good? What about Rowlands? Is Carre good enough?
Too many untested/unproven players too many with too little game time. Scots to win by 240 000 points. First time in years I am not expecting us to beat Scotland 😟😥
Shane Lewis-Hughes has been an absolute monster for the Blues recently. I was very surprised to see him omitted from the original squad, and delighted to see him starting. I can see him and Taine Basham wreaking havoc for Wales over the coming years.
I didn’t expect to see Lloyd Williams playing for Wales again. I think he could do a great job tho, as long as Wales are winning when he comes on.
I think it will be a cracking, high scoring game on Saturday. Wales by a score.
Lloyd Williams wont let us down but he's yesterdays man and he was bang average then, Hardy was in the squad and should bench.
Weather forecast is shit isnt it and Parc y Scarlets does shit weather better than most places!!!
It's ok AA. The Toonbola continues and there is a couple of glaring problems in the Scots team. No Duhan and no creativity in the centre.
Back row is somewhat lightweight as well. Rain does not favour us.
Scots to win by 240 000 points. First time in years I am not expecting us to beat Scotland 😟😥
Hee, hee, I was thinking much the same, but more like 24 points. If Scotland can’t come to Wales and win this game now, then I don’t know when they ever will. Wales haven’t even got the crowd to do their bit.
Gatland has said the reason Scotland players don’t get chosen to tour with the Lions is because they don’t play well enough away from home. Now is their chance to put their hat in the ring. Otherwise, it’s Hogg alone again(?).
If it had been last march I would have been comfortable with predicting the win but now? Wales have had chance to regroup and too many of the Scotland players have lost form plus the Toonbola in full swing has again robbed us of our best attacking talents.
Gatland has said the reason
He may have said that but we all know its bollox. Scotland comprehensively outplayed wales before the last lions tour. were several places higher in the rankings and higher finished in the 6N. He has made a number of excuses why he does not pick Scots over the years.
Personally I'd be happy with a scottish boycott of the lions.

Scotland went to 5th place and Wales dropped to 7th following the game where Scotland ‘comprehensively’ beat Wales in the 6N - a game iirc that Wales were well ahead in the first half, for Scotland to blow them away in the second. It was at Murrayfield though, so kinda fits in with what Gatland said. Although it also suggests Wales weren’t playing well away from home either.
I really can’t buy Gatland being biased against Scotland players. Why would he be? There are enough games coming up for them to show what they have to offer. A good mix would be ideal otherwise it will be almost all England players, with a few from Ireland. I still wouldn’t boycott it mind.
I think its a combination of factors and also predates Gatland. Its clear tho every 50/50 decision he went with the welsh and indeed in some cases took crocked or out of form welshmen instead of fit and in form scots.
too many Scots have been denied a shot at the lions over the years
North dropped completely. 😥👋😬
My guess its a horses for courses thing - scared of the real pace that Scotland have out wide that North no longer has.
Oh shit I forgot it was in Llanelli, in a monsoon. Completely different game from indoors in Cardiff. I think it will be 9-6 to whoever has Halfpenny in their team. Scotland to sorely miss Laidlaw.
I don’t think Gatland has any sort of bias against Scottish players, but I do agree that they have been under represented in recent tours. I think it all starts with having Scottish coaches on the Lions staff. Hopefully this tour will be different. I’d love to see Gray, Watson, Russel, Hogg etc play for the Lions.

Biggar is playing though and has been taking the kicks. He missed 3 in a row last week, whilst looking decidedly out of sorts with his leg. It will be interesting to see what they do on Saturday - hopefully not too interesting though!
Its Ok - Toonie has hamstrung our team with his selections - its weird how such a maverick player has become such a risk averse coach. We have fantastic wingers - so pick creativity free centres!
I think Wales will win by kicking goals
My guess its a horses for courses thing – scared of the real pace that Scotland have out wide that North no longer has
North is still pretty quick, quicker than Williams. last week he had a foot race with the skinny french wing chasing a kick through. French guy had a m or so head start and North beat him to the ball. Surprised me. The sad fact is though he is now pretty much shit. If Adams, Zammit or Lane stay fit I cant see him getting many more caps.
The sad fact is though he is now pretty much shit.
I got the feeling for a long time, from the way he carried himself, that North was troubled by his hamstring. He seems more comfortable now. I still think he’s very good at what he does, but he is not very creative. It’s always difficult though to tell how much freedom the players are given. Perhaps North fit into Gatland’s game style better than Pivac’s?
Norths work rate is appalling and that has crossed different coaches. He has the occasional game where he has clearly had a rocket up his ass and gets involved more but it then tails off rapidly. I'd like to see him get back in but I'm not sure we will ever see him as an automatic choice again. This must be the first time a fit North hasnt been picked in almost a decade!
North is still pretty quick, quicker than Williams.
Really? Williams must be slow then 🙂
Which side does North play? 11 or 14? At 11 he would be up against the elusive Graham and at 14 Pivac would have guessed the thundering duhan ( but toonie dropped him)
Yep Williams is not international pace on the wing. North hasnt been dropped due to worries over who he is facing, he's been dropped as he is not playing well. He plays 14 mostly although has also played 11 a lot.
For me, he's out of form.
He's had injuries, not much game time, got sent off, and he's not really there at the level for an international game right now.
Still expect him to be involved in the future, but he's had a tough paper round.
At his age now, He's the sort of player that could really do with his playing time being managed so he can make a proper impact when it's really needed.
Wales can afford to rest him as they have good depth out wide, but really can't understand Williams not being FB.hp looks like he'd benefit from some testing too.
I know this might wind up the English who are on for a win, but These games' results don't really matter. It's a good time to try some kids and boost there experience.
Looking at the Irish lineup, Dorris, Connors, Keenan and a few others will all benefit massively from a Saturday night away game in Paris , even if they're not the ones that would be picked if it was a knockout game.
I find that really suprising that Loopy liam is even slower than North. Loopy is not a challenger for Hogg for the lions then? i always thought Loopy quite speedy
Idle John that is very true 😂
These games’ results don’t really matter
I'd suspect owning a 6N trophy injects some confidence into the team before the next set of internationals.
He’s had injuries, not much game time, got sent off, and he’s not really there at the level for an international game right now.
So we replace him with Liam Williams who has played one game since christ knows, almost a year.
I find that really suprising that Loopy liam is even slower than North.
Firstly, North aint slow, but yes Liam is not that fast.
Loopy is not a challenger for Hogg for the lions then?
He's better than Hogg! Less tendancy to drop balls over the try line whilst trying to be flash and then punching the air like he had scored, funniest thing ever!! Thats why scots arent picked for the Lions, no big game temprament! 🤪
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MPKCC9gEvAc
Look here, no scots to drop the ball!
