When given the option of the hardwood floor or the deep pile rug, Jnr CJR61 chose the rug.

We’ve cleaned using carpet stain cleaners but is there any advice to deep clean the rug? Full on carpet wet cleaner thingy? Any help would be great in an effort to stop our lounge smelling rather foul!

Thanks and happy almost December

Try cleaning a car when eldest_oab projectile vomited in backwards facing seat so hard it bounced back, covering all back seat, reverse of drivers seat, roof lining and trickled down my neck about five miles from next motorway junction...

(Proper cleaner + shake and vac or 1001. Also baking powder soaks up milk spills/smell well.)

Dettol do a spray can with ethanol for de-odorising fabrics
Oust / Fabreeze will cover up the aromas
Rug Doctor hire from Tesco , with 1001 carpet cleaner
Baking Powder sprinkled on will also absorb the smell.

Why arent you asking this on Mumsnet?

I know your pain . Funk Jr always vomits halfway up the stairs. Trickle down and projectile through the banister in to the dining room. Luckily we have bare boards downstairs. Having stair carpet fitted on Tuesday. Bought one that can be cleaned with bleach.

Would one of those rug doctor things do the trick?

I don't have kids but I'll share my policy.

If it can fit in the washing machine it goes in the eashing machine.

If that finishes it then its a stupid item and deserves nothing short of the bin anyway.

We found the dog mess enzyme stuff works great with kids mess.
http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/simple-solution-stain-and-odour-remover-4ltr

Also got rid of the stench in the car when the youngest spilt milk everywhere.

the old fashioned way

take it outside and beat it and leave it to breathe

Two liberal drenchings of 1001 and it’s much improved.

The joys of toddlers!

go on yell.com
search for carpet cleaners, filter to closest one, ring him.
Get him out to do that rug and any carpets in the house (upstairs?). He'll come out with a super dooper big machine and the cost will be less than £100 and you'll have lovely fresh carpets for christmas.
This will make it cleaner and nicer than any job you can do.
🙂

Yep. Been there.

My middle one did exactly that 20 miles into a 550 mile drive to Cornwall on a hot July Saturday.

No warning, just put his hand in front of his mouth and let rip which caused it to spray all over the seats, the roof, his brother and sister and the whole left side of my head. Miraculously, his mum remained untouched.

To answer the OP's question. Chuck it in the washing machine if you can or get yourself one of these....

Twas a wise investment indeed.

Definitely worth getting a Vax if you've got kids/pets and any carpet. Ours took some serious hammer when the little uns were littler.

Just checking. The rug or the toddler?

Erm, no.

Chuck it on in handfuls. Jiggle it around every half hour. Vacuum up in the morning.
A lot of the stronger, more chemical based cleaners we can't get here. Or we get horrendously expensive, watered down versions.

We used to buy Bicarb in kilo bags when our kids were small and leaky/squirty.

Oh, we got one of those small handheld steam cleaners as well. That was £40 well spent.

Not that I'm recommending this ..but on one of those mtb "tips " videos on YouTube the mechanic was saying that WD40 was a great way to remove stains from carpets ..I don't think it was an April Fool version ..as for the smell ..your choice !

Hmmm, still stinky.

Think a meter to father Christmas for a Vax might be in order

Thanks all
