Karate last night. Didn’t even make it to the warm up.

Managed to put my back out putting an ankle brace on. Taken out by a sock! A silly blue neoprene sock.

Can hardly move today and am sat at my desk with a load of Ibuprofen onboard and an ice pack shoved down the back of my pants.

Getting old(er) is the absolute shit.

HTS, 55 years old, brittle.

I once had to cancel a ride after putting my back out squeezing into bibtights.

Currently struggling with a particularly annoying blister on my little finger from shovelling snow last week. I'd like to know what Mark Knopflers view on this would be 40 years on.

Ah, but his day job was delivering kitchens*, so he was used to it.

* Custom ones apparently. Are they heavier?

I think Mr Knopfler would be struggling with a blister on his thumb these days

I managed to spike myself headfirst into the ground at Dunkeld a couple of weeks ago - literally landed on the top of my head and felt my neck bones shunt together. One of those crashes which wasn't actually that bad, but scares you shitless nonetheless, as you can easily imagine how bad it could have been. Neck's been fine since, barring the odd twinge - no pain 99.99999% of the time and full range of movement.

Not been on a foreign riding holiday since 2017. Finally get out to the Pyrenees earlier this month. 3 runs in on day one and I'm loving it. Quick group and we're making good time. To avoid getting to lunch too soon, we repeat run 1.

Innocuous front wheel slip and managed to spanner my ankle. I was in a Spanish UTC by lunchtime and in a posterior cast within the hour.

Not as impressive as just putting a sock on but possibly more frustrating

And on the upside, your owl impression is now a real showstopper... 🙂

A few years back I tore the MCL in my left knee doing a squat in the warm up for a tai chi class 🙂

(I'd never done tai chi, but it's not like it really needs a warm up given the slow mo aspect of it)

Ended up with tennis elbow from walking our little rescue and him repeatedly slamming the brakes on to sniff.

I once put my back our lifting up a really heavy winter road bike. Always get nice lightweight bikes... they are just safer.

Although busting my collar bone on my first day of a week's MTB this summer was particularly innocuous but it was massively frustrating

I went to pick up my "old fashioned" double edge "safety" razor from the bathroom sink shelf (those who dont like blood turn away now)

The handle of my beautiful Merkur 34c was hanging over the edge of the self, I knocked it with my hand and sent it spinning in the air heading to the sink below.

Stupidly I reached out to catch the handle only for the blade end to slice of a goodly chunk of my hand just behind my thumb.

No pain as it was a very new Feather blade (that came later) but large amounts of blood and a chunk of my hand in the sink never to return.

I now have a scar and am free to big it up when in a small fishing boat at night out hunting for sharks.

My "favourite" was Mrs BH who dislocated her thumb because the door knob on our old Defender had frozen solid.  She was in a hospital car park at the time helping organise the Covid jab queue.  Mrs BH doesn't read this forum.

Would never have haappened with a Disco...

I tore a muscle in my should many, many years ago picking up.... a sheet of paper from the floor. Was in a lot of pain for a week after that and, to this day, still have issues with it.

Paper. One sheet A4, not even anything on it with a heavy typeface.

Does fracturing your upper jaw and some metacarpals, plus losing some front teeth while smashing into the back of a stationary refuge collection lorry count? 😆

Almost 11 years ago now.

I once put my back out loading the dishwasher. That took a couple of weeks before I was ok again. Another time I put my back out playing with one of the dogs, again a couple of weeks recovery time.

Getting old is just so much fun!

Years ago, getting ready for a ride, I was putting an elastic band around my spare inner tube. I dislocated my finger. No riding for two weeks.

@onzadog - that's brutal! And some proper 'eeeewww' type injuries on here as well.

Tennis elbow one - I have 'golfers elbow'* apparently contracted by painting long planks of facing board to fix the big shed. I was doing it for nearly two days, but that's a proper middle aged injury. Ignored it for a month, panicked, spent loads on physio before a weeks riding in Italy and twice as much when I came back properly broken. I didn't however fall off and spanner myself.

*I do not play golf.

I've somehow given myself a black eye in the last couple of days. No idea how...

Moved home recently, and have all sorts of bruises and muscle tears...

Last night I thought I could ride my bike through a flood rather than take the mile plus detour.

I was wrong.

Fell off into the flood water, ripped my trousers and cut my knee. Then had to take the detour anyway, missed the train and had to wait for the next one with pissing wet trousers. Which was annoying enough, the rubbish part was cycling past two losers who wouldn't try to cycle through it, who then gleefuly watched me fall off.

You just reminded me - my wife opened the car boot one afternoon at the beach and the wooden skim board slid out and landed on top of her sandalled foot, breaking a bone. We didn't spend the day at the beach, and apparently it was my fault because I'd put the skim board in the boot.

I had to get my 11 yo to put my socks on my feet this morning. Two and a half weeks into a seeming Sciatic episode that is totally unprecedented. Physio tomorrow - hoping for a miracle cure.

Crushed a bollock between my legs when sitting down yesterday, which meant I had to stand up again, for a bit

I was about to cycle to work, and bent down to put my breakfast plate in the dishwasher.

I crawled all but screaming to the lounge and lay there on the floor for 2 days with a back in spasm....

The stabiliser has just released to the general public a late life problem..... sitting down on your bollocks to put your socks on. Basically it's all over at this point.

MrsMC slipped off a low stool and many years ago. Foot was quite sore for a couple of weeks before she decided to get it checked at the local minor injuries unit. I got a call from there asking me to come and pick her up as she was in a cast from hip to toe and couldn't drive home.

Probably just before then, she managed to close the rear door of our car while checking on a sleeping MCJnr. As in the door clicked shut with her right fingers in the door frame. Unfortunately,  due to her disability, she couldn't open the door with her left hand to free the right hand. She had to attract my attention to go over and free her without waking and scaring Jnr.

She also has a permanently broken finger on her disabled left hand from falling over at the Eden Project. Despite living next to one of the top hand injury units in the country, several procedures and a lot of wiring, they never managed to fix it.

Picked up some bruised ribs in the moshpit at a Sepultura show a couple of weeks back. Being a) 10 stone and b) 46 is not a brilliant combination for that sort of thing! Feels utterly unfair to have bruised ribs without having crashed a bike.

Seem to have picked up a trapped nerve, had physio for it last week and felt like I’d been beaten by a baseball bat.

Needles in the muscles and leccy, does seem to have worked but still very stiff in the back.

it’s the slow recovery time from trivial stuff that really bugs me,

It's amazing that we often get fractures and "walk them off" over the years x rays for new stuff on me has shown lots of old injuries including-

Fractured knee cap, skull and an ankle that the radiographer described as a box of broken biscuits. However I am a bloke, Northern and thick.

I put my back my back out by walking home from the Coop on Boxing day with a frozen packet of filo pastry in the rear pocket of my Barbour jacket.

I also ended up with quite a nasty burn on my thigh which was related to getting a testicle exams at the doctors. Long story, but I don't do well out of it.

I’ll match and raise you a broken neck (C6-T2) only accidentally discovered 3 years later. Horses are bloody dangerous things, mountain bikes much safer.

I’m neither a bloke or Northern, I just don’t like doctors and can’t stand the idea of sitting in A&E for a million hours.

After hanging around ice rinks for 40 years, going to canada in winter 5 times and actually playing ice hockey for a couple of years, without ever doing anything worse than the odd bruise/black eye despite falling/being checked literally hundreds of times.

I slipped on ice in the UK a few years back, broke my fibula, chipped the tibea and tallus.

cue a metal plate, 8 screws and a couple of pins for good measure.
couldn’t make it up.

I broke a finger changing a duvet cover once, I consider that not bad collateral damage for such a perilous task.

Changed an inner tube at Gisburn, stood up and back popped. Did Gully Gully and back was very, very painful. Woke up next morning, back spasming, so off to Dr. Get weird look from Dr as I'm stood next to him thrusting in his general direction due to the spasms. He prescribed me some diazepam to sort it out.

As my name implies, breaking the banjo for good and there being blood everywhere. Girlfriend at first confused due to time of cycle, then screaming when she realises, it was like a beheaded (small) snake. Went to see a lovely female South African Dr about it, who said "perhaps try not being so vigorous".

Yeah, we probably all think that till we wake up at the bottom of the stairs with only the vaguest memory of a hand applied to our backs just before the fall. 😉

Depends what you changed it into I suppose.

So, I just popped out for a quick paddle, before I knew it got a bit stuck. Next thing I go to count my legs and find i'm down to 1.5.

Popped round to the local German Discount supermarket, riding through the car park I had an innocuous clip against the kerb. Next thing I know I'm sprawled across the ground, sore hip, throbbing head, try to get up can't stand up.

Turns out that I have managed to fracture my pubic-rami.

You know those glass jars with the springy clip thing on the top to keep them closed and airtight? I opened one of them a bit carelessly and it pinged me and knocked a little bit of bone off my thumb joint and then that bit of bone turned out to be in some way THE MOST IMPORTANT MM3 OF BONE IN THE HUMAN HAND and my thumb's just never going to work quite right again apparently.

Also broke a rib while changing a car stereo, quite an extreme business that.

On the other hand I broke my shoulder earlier this year at the forest of dean and apart from it being sore for a couple of months suffered no ill effects whatsoever. I've hurt the same shoulder worse just by sleeping.
