Just had a mail from NextDayTyres offering a discount on tyres ordered.
Nothing wrong with that so far.

They mention the VAT hike and also a rubber price hike next year.

How much do you think of the cost of the tyre is the rubber? in a car tyre I would expect a rise as the material might be 10-15% of the cost but on a £40 Racing Ralph I should imagine there should be nothing. Or any other bike tyre for that matter.

I'd guess by weight it's the biggest constituent.

I used to own some rubber plantations with the missus. We did alright out of them and sold them off rather than run them. We managed to get out before the middle man fixing scam in Thailand crashed the rubber price there.
