On the 6th November there will be a 2 year pilot scheme to allow 16 – 24 age group free entry to all RSPB reserves. They will need a valid ID.
This is to encourage youngsters to look out for and after nature.
Laudible aims, not quite sure that a fiver was the barrier to entry for a typical 23 year old they think it is - massive reduction on membership so 18-24 yr olds got it at child price might be more impactful. I'm actually surprised they don't just say free entry for everyone but you have to pay to park.

this is how it works for a lot of the smaller reserves (both RSPB and Wildlife Trusts)
P20 - sorry no link as it info given to volunteers (of which I'm one).
If you are an RSPB or 'caravan and campervan club member' (there maybe other clubs) then you can get in by showing a card.
All these places have overheads and cannot always be free. Reserves such as Leighton Moss near Carnforth have public footpaths through, so entry is easy to find.
The RSPB is a charity and puts a lot of work into bird and wildlife conservation. It needs funds to carry out this very important work.
Free in order to raise more money? That's for the birds
RSPB is not just about birds anymore, it's also 'A home for nature'. In general anything natural from the tiniest mammal to a weed.
Gateway drug and rightly so
