Had a few things go missing revently and got one of the royalmails claims policy forms, normally if it's a small item I just wrtie the cost off because the royalmail are so useless that it's a waste of time filling it in and then chasing it up.
However recently I had a bearings kit for £50 go missing posted inside the UK, I say missing but the packet was ripped open and the contents stolen, I've also got another missing packet that was sent to germany worth £27.
Filling in the royalmails claims forms, there policy is that you are only entitled to what the item cost you, so I am only entitled to the cost of the bearings, I lose out on the work I have done to sell the bearings and the profits I made when the bearings were sold.
I don't know of any other company that operates like this and I have to wonder how royalmail can justify this. Losing my items in the first place is bad enough, to then turn around and declare that they are going to cost you even more money is simply outrageous!
RM is sh*t. My mate sent in a claim and mispelt my town. Even though house name, number, street and post code were all right. Absolute bandits.
Do you not just resend the bearings, therefore still make the sale/profit?
I can see how frustrating it can be though if its happening quite frequently.
I got some some 9/10mm through axles from SS sent to me in Germany, the packet was ripped open and resealed in France with a couple missing.
From our management meeting minutes the other day.
from April 1st the Post Office would increase postage for under 2kg packets to £2.10 and reduce this to a 2 day service with no compensation. They were introducing tracked service for £2.40
I don't know of any other company that operates like this and I have to wonder how royalmail can justify this.
Isn't it absolutely normal for consequential losses to not be covered on stuff like this? Can you imagine the sort of false claims that would occur if you were allowed?
they can only refund what the items cost you as otherwise there's a great scam in making lots of money out of the post office. You are down the cost of the bearings and postage. RM will refund you the cost of the bearings and postage.
You send replacement bearings onto your customer - you still make the same amount of 'profit' as before the orginal bearings went missing, you've just had to spend a little more time filling in paperwork.
Special Delivery covers for consequential losses but not any of the other services

I think the point kaesae is making is that if you buy item for X then do Y to it and sell for X+Y+Profit then for this item he is going to be selling it for X+Y+Y+(Profit-Y) therefore not making as much as normal on it because of someone elses error.
Some may argue that you should factor things like this into your mark up but i would immagine it must be pretty tough to keep prices competative with small items like bearings etc.
Yes that does make sense I suppose, which is why I normally don't bother with filling in the forms. Truth be told I'm knackered and could do without this crap, too much work and I NEED MY BIKE BENEATH ME!
However I do have another problem, I have to send royalmail the original receipt, a company that are notorious for losing shit, so how do I trust them to do the right thing or even that they will pay out?
Why can't I just send them a copy of the reciept and the tracking number etc, what happens if the reciept gets lost in the post?
In the past when frames or forks have occasionally gone missing with proffesional postal companies I just claimed the amount I sold them for.
Anyway better get back to work, at least I learnt about consiquential loss and came to understand it 😀
Surely the 'cost of the item to you would be [trade price]+[your time].
I.e you buy bearing for £1, and do 20p worth of work, and sell it for £2.... however you can only claim £1.20.....? That's how i'd fill in the claim form anyway - put what it cost you in total?

Hey, I will figure it out later, upto 11pm working last night and started at 6am this morning, all I'm focusing on for now is getting finished.
Not even sure how I would go about proving what the bearing kit cost me to be honest.
