I have to get my Dad there from Bury for a 9am appointment.
It looks like it's straight along the M62 to J24 and in.
I'm going to give myself 1.5 hrs for driving and parking, but are there any gotchas I need to know about?
Is parking as much of a pain as every other hospital - I'm not bothered about the cost.
Any nuggets of information that might help?

TIA

Elland bypass from J24 up to the Infirmary can be a git (2 lanes into 1 famous local bottleneck). Google Maps says to get there for 0830 on Monday it'll take you 30-55 mins. Traffic going eastbound on M62 shoudn't be so bad at that point unless there's a shunt towards Bradford. Of course if it is monumentally bad / closed you can go x-country Rochdale, Littleborough, Ripponden.

I've never had bother parking in the main carpark mid-late morning in the last few months (see vasectomy thread). Not sure how this does/doesn't clash with visiting hours though. I'm guessing 0900 is before most people go visiting.

Yep Elland bypass is a huge pita but should be ok given what you’ve allowed - certainly don’t allow any less though - never yet failed to get parked in the big car park off Godfrey Road..

I worked there for a bit and commuted from Rochdale.

Alternative to Elland bypass is to go down through Stainland and join the traffic at the bottom of Salterhebble.

I’d imagine for 0900 patient car parking will be ok, or at least no worse than any other hospital.

Oh yes, and if you go by the Elland bypass there are many speed cameras and it’s a steep downhill.

I’d suggest not using j24 at that time of day.

As a local, I’d leave at j22 (Saddleworth) then to ripponden, sowerby bridge and then over the moor to the hospital. It’ll not be traffic free but quieter than the bypass mentioned above.

the Elland bypass there are many speed cameras

Are they actually turned on though? I don't think  I've ever seen them flash, either up or down

@ratherbeintobago - normally I'd agree with you but at the bottom of Stainland Road in West Vale they've just started 10 weeks of gas main replacement ☹️

West Vale is crap on a normal day at rush hour. I'd avoid it.

I'd go M62 all the way to junction 24. It'll be slow approaching 24 at the time you'll be hitting it but going Rishworth/Ripponden is slower and the traffic down into Sowerby Bridge can be bad on a morning.

From jct 24, take the first left off the roundabout through Blackley down to the cross roads near Brooksbank School. Straight over there, take the left hand turn down the hill as the road bends to the right. Follow that, right at the bottom, next left and then right at the T junction in West Vale. Through both sets of lights, straight over the mini roundabout at Salterhebble and from there even in the traffic you're a couple of minutes away.

That way you miss the Elland bypass which is awful. I often do either that or down the A629 to the Elland turn off and then the little road from Elland bridge to West Vale but getting down to the lights in West Vale can be a bit of a chew from that direction.

@DaveyBoyWonder - have you done that route this week with the new gas mains roadworks?

@oldtennisshoes - check out what used to be roadworks.org here ( https://one.network/)

Traffic will be backed up from J24 but not massively, don't be panicked into coming off at J23 - it's worse. As above your main delay will be once you're off the motorway, both on the slip road and at the Halifax end of the by-pass.
