I’ve recently moved to Lyon (lucky me) and wondered if anyone has any recommendations in the area? I prefer the downs to the ups but happy to route-find. Although if there are marked trails for an easy blast that’s great too! Thanks.

only a couple of hours in the car to portes du soleil - that'd be where I'd head

Closest fun stuff is probably just west of Lyon around Yzeron/Grezieu I think? Very popular with roadies, so Strava heatmap will probably show mostly road routes.
Seen these ?
https://www.utagawavtt.com for GPS traces
http://www.vetete.com/ for organised randos - usually quite XC, but basically local clubs marking up their favourite bits for a day
There's a list of FFC sites here as well https://sitesvtt.ffc.fr/ these are the routes marked with a triangle and two dots. Can be a bit dull, but get you started. Site is pretty difficult to use though

There are loads of signed trails west of Lyon around Grezieux as Timb34 pointed out.
Polionnay is the focal point of all things Enduro in that immediate area, there are marked open access DH trails in Courzieu.
Southwest of Lyon between the Rhône and St Etienne you've got the massif du Pilat which is immense and would need far more research, but would be worth the effort.
Lyon itself has good trail options on the doorstep on Mont d'Or, quite a few dirt spots around the city and an indoor bike park opened up last year in Vaulx en Vélin (Weride)
Check local Facebook groups for group rides as it's always the best way to learn the trails (chevaliers enduro des monts du lyonnais, Alpina VTT Lyon)
