Hi hive mind help needed as family holiday in a few weeks first week close to Glenborrodale ardnamurchan peninsula - any routes gravel or mtb , even bikepacking if it’s open enough ? Also will be with family on bikes so anything local.

Not been there before and it seems further away over the onich ferry

Thanks for help as more disorganised than usual ....

Cheers

You can do a loop from Glenborrodale over to Acharacle, West to Ockle and then return on road. It's rough/squelchy in places so I'd be taking a mountain bike. If the wee cafe in Acharacle is open, it's well worth a visit.

There's a nice wee trail heading up the glen out of Strontian and coming back via the fairy hill. You can also head over to Loch Shiel, return via road (or via Cona Glen)

Piemonster and I did a two day bikepacking trip from Strontian too.

I can vouch for that, we stopped in Ockle a few years ago. There's a (similarly sometimes slightly vague) route west from Ockle along the coast towards Ardnamurchan, also return on the road. Lovely area for geologising.

We have a big trip planned through that area in September. Had hoped it might have been virgin territory but should have known Scotroutes would have got there first!

Ian - it might be a bit too"MTB" for you but the old coffin road from Strontian/Scotstown over to Polloch and Loch Shiel has some really interesting bits. I suspect it works best in that direction though - not the way you are going.

Thanks Scotroutes, we'll have had our fill of the rougher stuff on this trip, descending into Glen Lichdt from Glen Affric and also following the pylons from Corran into Kinlochhourne, not to mention retracing your steps to Drimlin...

It's supposed to be fast and light so anxious avoid any more hike-a-bike than strictly necessary, famous last words!

Thanks all for input as it added some good adventure to the hols - followed scotroutes plan up out of Glenborrodale to Laga loch but has to deal with loaches dear gates and climbing over the side of them - is there any other options ....

Was wet and getting a bit vague up to the loch but the good down towards the bay. The trail from singing sands up to ockle was hard wet and some pushing but a nice example of old Croft access. Deer seen and maybe an eagle the chased some cars back to Glenborrodale. 30 odd miles on the fatbike in the wet was a good day out !

Off to nethy bridge next week so some different trails there I think

Thanks for help !

If you go from Glenborrodale to Laga and encounter all the locked gates please contact the local access officer, anti-social landowner here.
