If I want to add some more network connections to my router what are my options? I’m probably not using the correct terminology but I want to connect things to my router using network cables and I’ve run out of sockets.
Secondly would it be plug and play as I’m a complete simpleton with things like this....

As cranberry says, what you want is a network switch and it is plug and play unless you are buying something very fancy indeed.

you need a network switch

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0034CL3MA/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_bT8diJ_c_x_1_w?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=XCPR99XBN4REFT2WF4SG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=0e1bf0e3-42f8-5be0-ae4e-02e33def41a5&pf_rd_i=430573031

Plug one cable from the router into the network switch...plug lots more network cables into the free ports on the network switch.

plug and play no faffing required - the switch and the router figure stuff out by themselves. The network switch will need power from a normal electric plug socket

Probably worth getting something with gigabit, it should be a bit faster. At least for file transfers within your network, it won't make much difference for internet access. And not much more expensive.
eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-GS205-100UKS-Gigabit-Ethernet-Desktop/dp/B00AYRZYG4/
