A neighbour has just asked me for route suggestions as he is planning to ride from Farnham to Chichester at the weekend. My obvious thought is the Shipwrights way which should get him 90% of the way there, although I have never done it. Any other suggestions, road or offroad ?

Shipwrights Way looks good but after Buriton I'd go S Harting and then either on the road past Uppark or off-road equivalent slightly to the east. I'm not sure if any of the Hangers Way is bridleway but that is beautiful.

From Harting take the SDW eastwards for awhile, then turn south to Kingley Vale, then you're not far away from Chi.

OP @bikebouy has ridden the shipwrights way. Mates rode down to Chichester from Guildford via Downslink, they said it was a bit boring

These together are 90% of it. There are a couple of cheeky footpaths worth avoiding south of Haslemere take road from 5 to 7 miles. The descent was great, but cheeky and a pain to get to.

Western route from Tilford to Haslemere is better - an easier climb. On the run up to the punchbowl, there's another trail parallel to gpx route to the left (east) which is on the ridge, rather than in a valley - better views!

It should be pretty doable, I've lived in the middle of that part of the world all my life so ridden it all for years. Ned's pretty spot on with what hes said and his route theres more cheeky options to use though , should be possible to do most of it offroad with only a short section of road south of midhurst. The shipwrights is not great and theres loads of better options. Drop me an email and i'm happy to help out with ideas.

Shipwrights easy to follow, been there done that. It's blinking lovely too.

I too would go through QECP pick up the SDW then up to Harting and head south down the lanes from there (or at a pinch go through Staunton CP)

As is the Shipwrights is signposted all the way, easy to follow route, lovely ride on mix of old tarmac and bridleways. It's not that long TBH, should take a couple of hours max.. but if you soft peddle and enjoy it's a jolly good route.

Mucho Recommendo for anyone really.

From Harting therer are a couple of ace bridlewys that will take you almost due south . You pop ou . after a quick road section and a nice climb iun Stoughton Then up cardiac and and keep right I think then Its tarmac from there
