Have some time away in Mellor with the family, will have my bike (rigid MTB) with me

Does anyone have any recommendations for rides I could do from the front door? I know I could drive but I'd really prefer not to if possible

Inside knowledge, good routes, GPX, cracking trails etc all welcome!

I'm with the family so would be doing it at night with lights

You'll have to do lots of linking minor roads. Mostly legal stuff as follows:

Short marked (ish) mtb trails and bridleways on Billinge Hill above Witton Park. Then road to Tockholes and Darwen Tower / Roddlesworth Woods (lots of concessionary Bridleways not on map). Also through to Abbey Village - White Coppice - Healey Nab - Rivington - Winter Hill etc if you really want to do the miles.

There is a bw from Pleasington road to Nabs Head and can make a sort of loop in Hoghton area bw, lanes and fp etc.

Little roads around Balderstone turn into a bw at Bezza. Cyclepath alongside A59 takes you to Guild Wheel bike route loop at Brockholes nature reserve.

East along the road / ridge at Mellor, left at pub and then drop to A59 at Mire Fold. Bit of bw then road down to Ribchester. Cheeky fp Marles Wood and footbridge over Ribble to Hurst Green but you might get told off. Legal option is probably up Gallows Lane. Then plenty on Longridge Fell - bridleways and the forest are OK but not great in places if wet....

Stuff in Bowland but some hike a bike, bogs and need to be good with a map. I like it but others may not.

Then obviously drive to Gisburn Forest.

I'm just down the road from Mellor, the only places I ride from my door are around Dean clough res/ Whalley nab area, not a lots there but worth an hour or two. Longridge Fell is 30 minute road ride away and Billinge woods is 20 minutes away.
Probably better heading towards Tockholes in the car as there plenty to go at from there.

Get in touch with BAD, Blackburn and District bikers. After being attacked by the same bonkers woman who attacked Boggies they now operate as an informal group on Facebook only but you should be able to find them. They meet for weekend and Wednesday evening rides in the area.

I run the informal facebook group 🙂
You'd probably need to drive to a meeting point though as we meet in a different location each week, but your more than welcome to join us, either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Sunday.

Thanks guys, doing some googling now

Does anyone have any GPX they can link to or share?

Windysurfer - thanks for the kind offer. I have 3 kids so can never guarantee being able to leave on time or guarantee being anywhere, wouldn’t want to commit and then let you down

Heading to tockholes in the car might be an option, looks close, will check that out

Took the club to court for discrimination and data protection.
Club won but decided to become a group of riders rather than a club.
I believe she still rides with another club over Manchester way.
