Car had a scrape with a wall today, totally my fault....

Wrote off both passenger side doors, fortunately no damage apart from my pride and the doors.

Insurance want me to cough up £450 excess plus the no doubt increased premiums and they will come round and take it away....

How much would a couple of replacement doors for a Mazda 2 and a partial respray be?

Doors look to be circa £150 each off e-bay, sure they can be found cheaper with a bit of effort....

Any decent mechanics in the house who could give an idea on price?

Given the retail price of a colour matched bumper for my 3 series touring was over £600, I'd be willing to bet that unless you get lucky with a pair of undamaged salvage doors, your insurance will be cheaper. Also, if you've already notified your insurance company, your premium will be headed north regardless of whether you claim or not. You've had an accident and recorded it with the NID and so, from now on you will be required to answer "yes" whenever you're asked "have you had an accidents in the last 5 years?"

You may find that your insurance will go up now just from telling them. They class you as a risk now. Ours went up after our car was stolen and we informed them even though we weren't going to claim. Ended up claiming because it was easier, t was going to go up because of it anyway and we had no excess.

If you get decent rust free doors then I would expect to pay £200 - 500 for the paint job. Avoid any BS about needing to blow over adjacent panels. Just t-cut the older panels to bring them up shiney again.

I got a cowboy job done on a wing of my old focus for £125. I regreted it as it went rusty after 2 months. He messed up the prep. Doors in less than perfect condition will need more work = more money. Allow 2 - 3 hours labour to fit door and transfer door cards etc.

£450 plus insurance hit sounds cheaper. But depends where you live/how old etc.

In the end I got a wing off ebay the same colour and a couple of cans of spray from Halfords to touch up some scratches. £40 all in. Looked as new. I can spray well though. It does take practice though.

Cheapest I got a rear door replaced, fitted and sprayed on a mk iv astra was £650 cash all in. I had prices from that to 2k. That was after my neighbour reversed off his drive into it (ignoring his parking sensors). He paid for the repair and I wasn't that fussed.

However, it wasn't a great repair job but good enough.

The only way to do cheaper was find a mint condition scrap door in the right colour and have a quick blow over done on the door only to bring it up better but very easy to get poor panel match that way.

I would say to get done properly you are looking at £1500+.

this happened to my old focus. scrap yard for the door £90. put it on myself there and left them the old one. respray was about £80 locally and actually did a decent job. then again i'm not fussy and wasnt holding on for any resale value
