Of to see Villagers in Rotterdam on Friday Nov 8.
We are flying into Amsterdam and then getting the train down.
Hotel booked in Rotterdam on Friday night.
Is Rotterdam worth staying in for two nights? Or any suggestions of another town to stay on the Saturday - need to be able to get there by train and able to get back to Schiphol by Sunday afternoon.
Amsterdam is the default but I've been there loads of times.

Had a week in Holland at start of July, we really loved the 2 days we spent in the Hague, it's a cracking city, or Delft which was even nicer tbh.
Both not far from Rotterdam.
I’m in Holland now. Delft was really nice. Leiden too. The weather has been utter shite though. All members of family moaning about it and saying never again. Amazed at how expensive everything is. £70 for 4 pancakes!! Kids went to McDonald’s. Had what they usually had in UK which comes to around £20. Here it cost us £33 (€34). I feel like I’ve been fleeced for everything. £70 to hire a bike for a week.
It’s a nice place but next time we’ll stick to the Med I think.
(Rain is absolutely torrential as I’m typing this...)
Loddrick - thats the price you pay to vastly reduce poverty and have decent public services. How many homeless did you see? What was the state of the roads? Hows the cycling provision? How much rubbish on the streets? How many overflowing bins?
Yes Delft and Leiden are lovely towns.
TJ. Fair point. But try telling that to the wife and daughters...
Sorry to hear that Lodders, our weather wasn't the best either tbh.
I never found it expensive, £1.50 in that ice cream place in wassenaar for 2 scoops of awesome ice cream frinstance!
Amsterdam cheaper to park and ride than Glasgow too.
As TJ says, you can see where they've invested, while we over here have been racing to the bottom.
We'll be back next year.
Rotterdam is great. Look out the area round the market hall, and food inside it. Sculpture trail starting at the station nice too. Decent little maritime museum too. Public transport, especially the waterbus let's you get to loads of nice stuff nearby too. The Hague and Shev to one side, Kinderdijk for the windmills on the other. If you want a quaint old town, try Dordrecht, Delft or Gouda, all good.
Also an excellent Chinese restaurant near the station ( https://tai-wu.nl/) - more duck than you can possibly eat 🙂
Also, a week in mallorca was double the price of our week in duinrell.
Thanks for the ideas, I'll check them out!
The Netherlands is not a particularly expensive country - I lived there for many years and never found it any different to the UK, apart from higher top rate taxes. I'd say the slide in the value of Sterling is more significant - all of the Eurozone will seem expensive now.

We were lucky with the weather for our July cycle camping trip, which stated in Rotterdam. It almost got too warm, with The Netherlands and Belgium breaking temperature records.
I agree it was a bit more expensive to eat out as a family (but not ruinous). Being able to ride mile after mile of lovely cycle route with the kids, straight off the ferry, was priceless, through.
Rotterdam is well worth 2 nights.
It was mostly flattened at the start of WW2, so dont expect many old buildings. The part that didnt get bombed, Delfshaven, is nice. The parks near to the Euromast are great in the evening, walk through them, to the river, watch the boats going past. You used to be able to get a free ferry across to the Hotel New York, have a drink in there, then ferry back.
The Markt Hall is around 5 years old, and a definite must see. It is huge, but I found the food to be pretty expensive - a bit like Borough Market, but with more class.
Over the road from the Markt are the Cube Houses. Around 3 euro to visit the show/open one. Well worth going in for a look.
Shopping is great if you (or the OH) is into it. Loads of shops, in a small area.
