Reads to me that he's made a few quid.

I'm reading it from other sources he's just paid them £15m or so. he was only sueing them for something like $4m so unless he's got naked pic of the boss of the firm I can't see how they've agreed to give him $20m.

Pocket money for him, I suppose.

Just read a bit. Seems like part of his defence was that he was 'forced' to sign a contract under pressure, and that the agent's cut was far bigger than might be expected for a golfer of his rank.

Depends i guess what the first part means - I'm assuming he wasn't at gunpoint! - but being a shit negotiator in the second part seems to me to not be much of a defence.

The result was that he sued them for money based on their fees being too high, but also refused to pay them what the contract said they were due and instead didn't pay them at all. So he's now coughed up $20M* or so to make it go away.

* as noted above, out of the $100M they negotiated for him from Nike.

I know a few people in Sports marketing. It is quite incredible the amounts of money the middle men / agents take. This was a $100m contract with nike and the agent got 20%, those sort of numbers are not uncommon. Rory gets $80m, the agent $20m.
