I've rooted my Xperia C1905 as I need to move apps to the SD card. It only has 2Gb internal storage which is very quickly filled.
It says that I can't move apps to the SD card as the feature's been disabled by the manufacturer. I've rooted it. Now how can I use some of the external storage?
Even using App2SD tells me that "App2SD is not supported by your device because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card."
❓
Thanks
odd that, though app2SD stopped working for newer versions of android as there was a baked in 'use external memory as internal' function.
you may need to flash a different ROM and start from scratch as it were, and I'm guessing that if you followed the rooting procedure you're familiar with XDA and or modaco forums and have asked for Noob advice from there?
should add, when I've used phones with limited storage I tend to go through the root to CWM recovery, or similar, then pick a slim rom, then app2sd
Rooted your phone? I sincerely hope you're not Australian.
HTH 😉
Yeah, no..... Totally rooted it by the sound!
(Reminds me of a shift on a psych ward where a patient who was being discharged needed her belongings back. I said we could go and have a root in the cupboard)
what phone is it? (duh - did you add that or am I just blind?)
have you been on xdadevelopers and/or modaco ?
I was going to make the obvious joke headfirst but decided that, as mature adults, it wouldn't be necessary 🙂
Lovewookie - I'll have to google most of what you just said. It vaguely makes sense... enough to begin reading anyway. I only need the phone to last 6 weeks (new iPhone waiting for me in a different country) but can't really manage on a 2Gb phone until then. 500Mb for it's own crap, 250 for FB messenger... that 2Gb soon disappears.
I'll check out those forums.
I've heard of them whilst reading how to root the phone. I didn't just add the model!
I'm amazed at how a cheap Android easily outperforms my now broken iPhone 4s!
It seems to be a known 'problem', I just need to understand the workaround.
XDA forums will be the most comprehensive,
here
though if you go through this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m/general/guide-how-to-flash-cm12-lollipop-xperia-t2963316 and flash lollipop you'll have the option when inserting your SD card of formatting it as internal storage.
NOTE: you will need to install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery before flashing the rom. it's just an easy tool to allow you to 'boot' to recovery mode. kinda similar to what you do on a PC.
this is a nice guide https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_nicki
Get a new phone, things like internet banking don't like roooted phones as it's a security flaw
Thanks lovewookie.
I have an iPhone waiting for me in the UK when I get back in December Mike. I don't internet bank. I'm married. The best anyone could get from my phone is a few teacher emails and my STW account details.
I've breathed a new lease of life into my S5 by rooting it and then loading up a Cyanogenmod image onto it.
Much quicker to do everything again.
I did though do an automatic update on it last weekend and it utterly borked it meaning I had to reflash it (just stuck on reboot screen). No data loss, but needed to reinstall apps & set up again...
Yep. I would go for CM if you've rooted it. CM11 runs like a dream on my S4 mini. You'll need gapps as well if you want Play Store and other Google stuff. Battery life will improve drastically. Most apps are happy to run from SD and banking apps run without issue (NatWest anyway). I never update mine as it does everything I want it to.
Once you get the hang of it, see if there's a Slimrom compatible. I keep my very old orange san francisco 2 running on a slimrom of kitkat, and that only has 512Mb internal.
