We're having to replace the roof on the house (1930s asbestos cement, gone porous).
We've had some quotes, however if anyone would like to recommend (based on price and quality/personal experience) a roofer to work in east central Scotland please let me know.
I would also like informed opinions on the varioius slate options. It would seem that new Welsh slate (celtic grade) should be the traditional default, however we have also been recommended that Samaca 7/9mm would be a good alternative and then another roofer says he would use Cupa 1 and 2s' and another SIGA 39s'. Looking at the data sheets all of these and quite a few others meet the requirements.
I'd be very grateful of any help and advice from the collective.
Any roofers about today?
My dad adn I used some "fake" slates when re-slating his house. Looks fine to me and significantly cheaper.
I've also seen a system that allows you to reduce the number of slate you use by about 1/3, but I can't remember what it is called.
(Not a roofer but have reroofed a 2 houses and done other roof repears)
I think this is the system I saw.

Not an expert here but i did help a builder re roof a house and the client had the choice between Spanish or Welsh slate .
We ended up using Spanish and it was rubbish so welsh all the way, even if it is more expensive.
