Hi
despite massive boot etc am going to need the extra space of a roof box for a trip soon. I can borrow my sisters roof box but I don’t have any roof cross bars for my kodiaq. The kodiaq has the std Skoda roof rails so just need some cross bars. Will be used now and again I guess for the odd ladder, roof box or blown up sup/ sit on top kayak.
as usual don’t want to spend loads but want them to be reliable. Need some in a hurry perhaps tomorrow. First port of call might be Halfords? Anywhere else? Are their own brand ones decent? Thule seem a bit flash and speedy despite looking nicer. If I had more time I’d get some second hand ones from eBay.
Have a look on Facebook marketplace and see if there’s any local to you.
Yakima bars look to be very similar to Thule but much cheaper.
I've hired roof boxes and bars in the past from a local company - they fitted the bars and the box. This year for a couple of weeks holiday in the summer (15 days from pick up to drop off) it cost £35, so not that much (when compared to the cost of a tank of fuel, for example). If there's someone local to you who can offer something similar I'd consider that.
I’m not going to help really. I have a Skodiaq. I got the Thule ones - the ones that project beyond the roof rails. They’re quiet and they’re pretty stable.
The ones that sit between the rails only aren’t quite as stable (marginal with a roof box, but more of an issue with bike carriers)
Not really going to go wrong with Thule WingBar Evos. Theoretically they have a resale value, especially if they can be sold in bits.
If you’ve got time some of the OEM stuff is rebadged Thule. I got a cheap set of the right Thule feet for my wife’s last car (Golf wagon) badged as Renault.
If you can wait one more day you can get some Cruz bars from Roofbox on next day delivery. I was also in a hurry and went to Halfords and they had stock of the Thule ones. Cruz maybe 80 quid cheaper
I had Cruz bars on the Kodiaq, worked a treat. In fact I need to sell the feet (not the aero bars themselves)…
Stingmered - whereabouts are you?
Normally I'm a roof bar tart but I got these to use on a car short term (Lidl branded as they were back then) and I've had them now 10 years used on several cars still going strong. Can't fault them really.
@burko73 Saddleworth, OL3. DM if that works. Though am out all day today.
I had atera signo bars on our Kodiaq. They were fine and really quiet, but I broke a barrel nut putting them on one day.
I’d bought them from roofbox who I contacted straight away. They asked what I’d like to replace them with as they didn’t have another pair of signos in stock. I chose some Yakima whispbars which arrived next day before 9am, roofbox having waived the difference in price. At 12am another box arrived with a long padded hold-all in to ship the broken signos back to them. Their customer service is exemplary.
One issue with the bear is that the roof slopes downwards at the rear quite significantly. As a result roof boxes have a less than optimal angle of attack.

Whispbars are in a totally different league to the Ateras. You could easily leave them on all the time and not notice.
Stingmered thanks but saddleworth a bit far for today!
