Evening all,

Looking at a thin roof box for skis and extra space alongside two Thule bike racks in the summer. Looking at the Kamei Husky M at the moment. Any owners care to share their thoughts or suggestions alternatives anybody?  Not looking to spend a lot. Going on a 64 plate focus estate.

Thanks

Have a big Kamei roof box, from roof box company - getting the three catches to line up so that it shut properly was sometimes an issue, and I tend to take a packing strap to secure round the box just in case, but seems a good make of box, the clamp mechanism inside seems quite odd but works perfectly well.

Got one and really happy with it. Along with thule aero bars it’s pretty quiet. Can fit  two bike racks on as well on my Octavia estate.

I've had a Husky L for last 3 years, left on rails from late March to end of October. Been trouble free and still in mint condition. Also use it with Thule aero bars.

Possibly some more aero boxes available. Have got a long and medium width Dolphin, fairly quiet but not silent. It's on closed end aero Thule bars btw. If you are using alongside bikes though that's all irrelevant.

The box is blooming big Mind you, carefully what you load in there. Hit a big roundabout slightly quicker than was prudent on the A30 in the old avensis and handling was somewhat compromised! It was full of Wet wetsuits and beach gear, so can't blame anyone else.

We had a roof box for years, and it was great on ski trips, camping trips etc.  You should only put light stuff up there, and be careful in sidewinds.

Just one warning - we got rid of ours when we changed to a 308 estate and the box fouled the tailgate - even at the limit of its forward adjustment. As we needed access to get dogs in and out, it no longer worked for us.  So, if you need access to the boot, that's something worth checking.

Hey GT85

my advice on roof boxes comes from 2 days ago in France.

Dont drive into an underground car park with no height markings in a Ford X max and a borrowed roof box as the height can crush a borrowed roofbox very quickly,😭

I have a narrow Thule one that I got in a sale. Fits between two bike racks on my Kuga happily enough and is a great bit of kit. It is the sort that sits quite forward so doesn’t foul the boot door. Highly recommended.

One of these I think, but paid nowhere near that.

Great stuff, thanks all. The cheapest Thule ocean 600 is actually a bit less money that the kamei.. decisions decisions!
