Anyone going to see UK's own grandfather of DnB this weekend on of the 3 live shows?
I've got tickets for the London gig and making a weekend of it in that there London with some old friends from Uni. Very much looking forward to it, a live band drum n Bass loud as f is going to be a great experience and there's 2 Djs on before the main act. I hope the show isn't limited to just the tunes from 'new forms' as some from 'in the mode' would go down very well too.

No, but if he was playing further North I would be there like a shot.

Not even playing half way up the country.

Enjoy. It will be amazing.

Although I love his stuff and respect how influential he has been, I was about to come out full of bluster that Full Cycle's first release wasn't til '94 so being that late to the party kinda doesn't really justify the 'Grandfather of D+B' title. A mercury music prize is a very long way indeed from the roots of drum and bass, so I was going to say something about him maybe deserving recognition for making D+B mainstream.

But delving deeper and discovering a bit more about his background and early career, I'll concede to climb down from my high horse at least a rung or possibly even two.

I saw him at London Village Underground a couple of years ago and was really disappointed. Too much new material which no-one knew, poor sound quality and a lack of atmosphere. Hopefully they've ironed out these problems for the current live show. I'm off to The Barbican Centre to see Nils Frahm instead #middleaged

I suppose I used the 'grandfather of DnB' as a throwaway line meaning his age, otherwise who might you suggest for the title? Aphrodite? Goldie? Bukem!? but he looks too young to be a grandfather lol.

looks like there are still tickets for Bristol tonight, london on Friday, Birmingham on saturday and Leeds on sunday. £20

Golide would be the Godfather of jungle.... Not drum n bass per se!

I saw Roni a couple of months back in Perth playing his New Forms 20 year anniversary set. Frickin awesome but let down by an awful, underpowered soundsystem. Me and the missus were able to have a fairly normal convo during the warm up and set. Not how I remember drum and bass nights! I need to feel my lungs, nose and glasses vibrating with "da basslinez"

Still..... Missed Aphrodite playing but DJ Marky is here in March. Same venue though so I'm tempted a bit but its gonna be the same soundsytem.

"drum n bass per se!"

You don't often see those two phrases in the same sentence. "The sine qua non of drum 'n' bass"?
