Think the headline should be "Charlie Watts made it to 80!"

You know you're getting old when rock stars die of old age and not drugs

Heard that Keith Richards once advised him to cut back on the fun pills!

RIP Charlie. Mind you of all the Stones I'd have thought he would have lasted the longest.

Aw, that’s a shame, absolute legend. Drummer on some of the best songs ever recorded. Who’d a thunk Keef would outlive Charlie eh!
RIP

RIP. Only saw the Stones once. Sitting in my flat in Woodlands, Glasgow in 1982 when Radio Clyde announced a secret Stones gig. They were playing the Apollo a few days later and tickets were just going on sale. By the time I got to the box office an hour or so later the stalls were sold out. I got 2nd or 3rd row in the balcony.

I wasn't actually a huge Stones fan but as a 21 yr old any band that had been touring for a quarter of a century already was obviously ancient and wouldn't be on the road touring much longer. So thought I would see them while I could. So a huge fail on powers of prediction.

Immensely sad at this. Eternally glad that I saw them live with Charlie.

He was f great, understated, hated touring, loved his wife of 50 yrs, gave the most thoughtful interviews and particularly alongside Rocky Dijon produced amazing percussion. So far tonight, Beggars' Banquet, now Sticky Fingers, might not make it to Exile. Great life.
ps lucky enough to see them in Hyde Park

Bugger. Nice bloke who I met once in Croyde. Had no idea who he was until ten minutes into chatting when I put two and two together.
He seemed to have survived the madness better than many.

“Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste”

Thanks for all the genius Charlie. Way way better than the Beatles. RIP

Eddie, you lucky farkar, I would have been fascinated by that conversation. Have been a habitue for four decades, did see Chris Jagger turn up and play in the Thatch once. Down there in a few weeks, you never know.
