My beloved rolling cabin bag is falling apart and I need something to replace it. I need the perfect replacement.
My requirements are:
- largest "legal" carry-on cabin bag size
- soft sided (not plastic or metal shell)
- fabric should be thick plasticky/waterproof material - like the classic Ortlieb pannier "tarp" material
- decent sized , non-plastic casters (my old one had rubber rollerblade wheels and they were great).
- not too busy/too many pockets externally.
- silly colours might be a goer but black is fine too
I travel a reasonable amount normally and only buy bags once a decade, so I don't mind paying a little bit more for quality.
Any recommendations? Thanks in advance...
In true STW fashion, I hate rollers. So Patagonia mini-MLC for as my works travel bag.

Ryaniar or everyone else?
I too think a carry on is best soft and carried, rather than bulky wheels and handle...
Douchebag have things that fit that list
who made yr current one ?

This might be the trickiest part.
For all the other bits, I went Samsonite. It's the default for a reason, I guess - they do just work!
I have an Osprey Rolling Transporter 40 that fits the majority of that.
Whether I could carry it on to a RyanAir or EasyJet flight without having to pay for it is another very different question, but it's done me several Air Canada flights quite nicely
Rolling transporter 40 fits the bill and not had a problem with either the blue or orange budget airline (yet).
Thank you for the douchebag recommendation. The brand sounds perfect for me. If they don't have anything useful I will also look at the Osprey and Samsonite, thank you...

A company that now only sells shoes and was never very big 🙁
If it wasn't for the thick material the Eastpak cabin carry on would be my suggestion. Really well made, lots of room, simple and not fussy. Good warranty on them too.
Yup, the Osprey Rolling Tranporter for me too. I travel for work so it's probably been around the world 10 times (figuratively) in the time I've had it. The exterior has a few marks but they're purely cosmeti and the rest is still going strong.
I'm a tight bastard though and I'm seeing them at £200+ on the Osprey site. Not a chance I'd pay that much for a single item of carry-on luggage so there must be deals about, but I can't find my receipt to see where I got it from.
Eastpak Traverz S. I think it ticks all the boxes. I've used one for years, both the S and XS sizes. Great kit, well made, tough, been on and off planes trains ships and helicopters all over the world with mine.

I have a travelpro roll aboard case. It's almost 25 years old, and still going strong. Would get another for sure
Eastpak meets your needs exactly. Not light or cheap though.
